KH too high

I recently overdosed on kalkwasser. Even after several water changes then the alkanity/KH measures are:

16.82 dhk
290 ppm calcium carbonate equivalents

How hazardous is this level for fish and/or invertabrates?

Thanks!

I'd follow the directions in this article and calculator to boos calcium with calcium chloride, and let the alkalinity decline on its own. No need for a water change.

Do you know the pH now?

Hi Randy

First thank you for help! Your always posting answers to everyone's questions and the best part is you know what your actually talking about Anyways I am really glad that a kind and smark person such as yourself is an active participant on this board.

My PH is currently 7.80 My calcium is 500 ppm. If it drops under 400 before my KH returns to normal then I'll add some calcium chloride. I'm gonna use baked baking soda to raise my PH if it drops much below where its at.

Otherwise I'll just let the KH drop on its own as you suggested. I just wanted to make sure a level that high wasn't damaging to things. Thanks again!

Jer
