I didn't have much of a cycle either when I set up my 30 gal because I used already cured live rock. Looks like you're doing most things right! Good luck, i'll be following along!

So had my first flood. The hose from my auto top off came out of the sump and it pumped 4 gallons of water onto the floor. No damage I was lucky. Just needed some fans

I run two 10's bulkheaded together in my 55 stand as well. I used a single 1" BH for each, but wish I doubled up or went bigger as I seem to be limited to about 300 gph of transfer between tanks.
10's use 5/32" or thinner plate...really thin/fragile stuff. Luckily they don't cost much to replace

A Few tips based on my own learning curve:
  • Drill first, silicone baffles last. If you break one drilling, they are cheap to replace, but a needless PITA to redo all that baffle work.
  • Don't use the cheapest Ebay hole saw you can find...a quality bit is needed here.
  • Build a water dam with plumbers putty as per usual
  • Do not use a drill with wobble
  • Try to plan your sump to keep bulheads as far away from the tank edges as you can
  • Firmly support the underside of the glass with soft wood blocking.
  • Avoid the angle start method. Best to start completely perpandicular on thin plate.
  • If you have access to some sort of plunge routing fixture, or a large enough drill press, this is prefferable to a hand drill. Just go real slow if you do.
  • Go even slower than you normally would and with less pressure.
  • When done, polish the edges (they will be rough and subject to cracking) with sandpaper wrapped around a dowel.

I used a 3/4" but it mine as well be 1/4" the gravity feed on the drain is so slow it really limits flow.

Was the best option. Being a 55 and space limited and moist under the stand. So far no issues.

Looking to get a dual carbon and gfo reactor from brs for Christmas. Since I've run out of space under my tank is what I was thinking was to place a 20 high tank on the floor next to the tank and hang the reactor in that and then use the remaining space in the tank for ATo water. Then maybe blackout the tank for a nice clean black box appearance.

I definitely am getting a refractometer and dual gfo carbon reactor for Christmas. Yay. I picked up some red mushrooms today. Will add some picks later. I don't think I have mentioned this. But I started a 10g nano at my office. I then fraged my zoa and soon will be fragging my star polyp. This way the addition of my work tank is alot less costly. Let me know on your ideas of starting a thread on my 10g nano. Also I have patiently been awaiting for the 2.0 firmware update for my reefkeeper elite.

So I'm finally getting the coraline to
Grow great but now I must move. I'm looking to switch to a 60g cube in the process. Please check out 60g cube build/move thread I made to help me discuss how I'm gonna pull it off. I really appreciate the help this community has given me.

Just a warning about those heaters you use, I have been through several of that brand and they all eventually over heated on me. Ive switched to a better more reliable heater that been working for a while with accurate stable temps.

I have a 55 mixed reef but no sump, wish I had one.. Are you planning on adding more rock? What kind of corals are you going to do? Did you get that polyp colony from that fish place? Load of questions, sorry.
