Power backup

Hi All

I have inline ups and apartment has generator that kick in 30 seconds

Ideally I need inline ups power for short term
That’s why I hooked up my return pump and skimmer to the ups

Today generator didn’t kicked in because of failure which was fixed in 30 minutes

After power came I see huge stress in my yellow tang and 2 clowns.. should I hook my 2 Mp40w as well. I have enough capacity ups to run vortechs, return pump and skimmer together for couple of hours and this should be already enough to fix generator issues if any

No wave pumps seem to be stressed fishes so much

Any idea ?

Just hook your wave pumps to the UPS.. Thats all you need to do..

You don't need the return pump and certainly don't need a skimmer during a power outage..
Wave pumps alone is all you need..

But if you state you have enough ups capacity to run it all for a few hours then whats the problem?

Hi There,

Actually I was surprised skimmer didn’t give enough oxygen to tank with return pump if this was the huge stress source

Sounds like wave pumps more critical then skimmer for oxygen or other thing which was not available for the fish

I will hook pumps too

A skimmer is an optional piece of equipment..
A powerhead or other way to move water around (specifically at the surface) is mandatory...

A tank without water flow can lead to everything being dead in hours.. A tank can go forever without a skimmer

When in Florida I lost power from Hurricane Charlie and everything in the tank was dead within 24 hours.

Water needs to be moving so run the powerheads.
