I just got the same alpha 200 a couple of weeks ago for my next tank and this skimmer is a beast! I'm currently using it in my 125g but I think it's an overkill for it.
That flex hose, have you used it before? I have the same for my drains and it does some gurgling noise once in a while. I was thinking of just using regular pvc instead of the flex hose. |

I tried turning on the skimmer, but it immediately overflows and in getting a ton of micro bubbles shooting out of it. I think I've got it in too much water. It's sitting in about 12 inches and the manufacturer recommends 9" to 10". I'm going to build a short stand out of PVC and eggcrate. Hopefully that does it, otherwise I'm at a loss. I've adjusted it every which way and it constantly overflows. |

Wow - I just realized how long it's been since I provided an update. Work has been crazy busy!
I've tinkered a little with the aquascape since the last update and I think I'm happy with it....though I don't think I'm ever really happy with how it turns out. 70% - 80% of the rock is dry from BRS - a mix of Reef Saver, Pukani and a piece of shelf rock. The live rock is mostly from Diver's Den - I think it's a relatively new offering. The rock is man made (I think) and it was kept in a closed system so there are no pests...just lots of pods, a couple of feather dusters and I've found one small zoa polyp. The two pieces of tonga branch are from a LFS. I'll get some updated pictures up from under the stand shortly. Let me know what you guys think of the scape. Does this look like Woody Woodpecker, or is it just me? |

I've been slowly stocking over the last 6 weeks. So far, I've added a black occ clownfish pair (female stuck in overflow and can't get her out ), a midas blenny, a purple firefish, purple tang, a yasha goby w/candy pistol shrimp and my favorite so far...
Yesterday, I snagged a flame wrasse trio from a LFS. Love them! Male and one of the females All three I've also started to add some SPS - bought a frag pack from the for sale forum here and have a second on the way. Getting there! |

A couple of fish shots. Sorry for the picture quality - iPhone pics of moving fish are tough...
Purple Tang - man, this guy goes crazy when I approach the tank (thinking he's going to get food, I think), so he's hard to photo. Don't mind the white dots...I have a massive amount of collistina (sp?) all over the glass. Midas Blenny. Was stuck in the overflow for a bit and got a little skinny before I managed to get him out, but he's getting fatter by the day. Purple Firefish - this guy actually held still. I've added a few SPS frags (thanks rigleautomotive!). The color didn't turn out very well in the pics (iPhone again...), but here are a couple of them: My favorite, by far...Pearlberry Pink Lemonade For those that read the earlier posts, you know that I'm using three Maxspect G2 170 LED fixtures for lighting. I decided to add two 80W T5s today, using Fiji Purple and a Blue plus bulbs. The LEDs don't give me quite enough blue for my liking and I felt like I needed some additional pop from the reds and pinks with the Fiji purple. I can't get a good shot that shows the real difference between just the LEDs and the LEDs + T5s, so you'll have to settle for a fixture shot. Next project for today... Add the two MP10w ES pumps that I got this week to the back wall. I was going to use a single MP40 on the back wall, but got two MP10s so I could better position the flow and avoid blasting the sand in the front of the tank all over. |

Hey bud just wondering if you have any new pics of your system progress? how are you liking your LED/T5 combo?
I currently run 120LED's an almost 50/50mix of CW/RB, just have 2 reds per fixture on my 210, and just added 2 T5's to my rig as well just waiting on reflectors so I can add a little pop tot he tank myself. Awesome job so far.

I'm sorry to say that I tore it down and gave the whole system away a couple of months ago. It got to be too much for me to manage with work, kids, etc. I tore down my 185g as well, so I'm out of the hobby for the time being.
I really liked the LED/T5 setup, but had to cut full brightness on the LEDs to less than 2 hours a day as the corals started bleaching. It was just too much light. |
