Hey Gary...did we ever find out the change in glass color from Perfecto? Sorry, took a breather and slightly out of the loop...trying to get back up to speed.

I haven't inquired about the glass yet.
Junior isn't aggressive- my Powder Blue Tang is easily the most aggressive fish in the aquarium. I might be wrong but I think Junior is done growing.

Hi Gary,
I just spent the last couple of hours reading through the entire "new canvas" thread and now this one. What a great aquarium and a very informative read. The video clip at the end of the last thread was a real treat after reading through all 36 pages! I am in the early planning stages of a similar size tank and will take your lessons into consideration, especially the return lines and flow pattern. Unfortunately I do not have a basement and will have to cram everything under the tank. Coupla questions: Do you wish you had gone wider than 24"? Has the direct/indirect sunlight shining on the tank caused any problems? (other than the reflections?) Thanks, Robert |

thanks for the kind words, Robert.
my original desire was to have a 72" x 30" x 30" aquarium in this house but a 72" long x 36" wide x 30" high would have been ideal, too if you're planning to cram everything in your aquarium stand you might definitely consider the larger footprint the only problem with sunlight is that I can't get enough of it into this aquarium. Due to the location of this aquarium in relation to the windows in our house direct sunlight strikes the aquarium for only a few weeks each year. The rest of the year it receives indirect sunlight. Back in our previous house we installed a skylight above the aquarium and it really helped to light it up more.

fallout from the transfer
it takes some time to see the results of a sensitive livestock transfer.
Two of my pod eating fish bit the dust: Mandarinfish and Copperband. I had increased all feedings because I was aware of the loss of micro life that had occured during and after the livestock transfer but the feedings must not have been enough- and besides, the CBB never ate any prepared foods. (Perhaps I should have retained more of my old sandbed?) I believe all of my Acro species survived the transfer but some lost color because they were stressed. Certain colonies were outright killed by my gigantea anemone but I have several frags of each species scattered about my aquarium so everything is good. edit: I probably should have mentioned (for my own sake!) that I started running a 3rd 400w Ushio 14k on a Lumatek ballast last week.

You've got a lot of talent Gary.
Pretty amazing that you could maintain the CBB without it accepting prepared foods.Hope all else continues well for you. |

Oh my. What a project. I have procrastinated on replacing one of my displays, an 8 year old 90 g for years( some scratches) because I dread it. Juniors aquarium looks great. Love the name. Very nice work. Glad the livestock is holding it's own after the good hands of typhoon Gary.
