Lightbulb How High Is Your Electric Bill???

Hey everyone,

We all know that this hobby is a labor of love for all of us, and if our spouses knew what we "really" spent on it we would all be hermits right now

Just for curiosity sake, one of the major costs is electricity. you know, LIGHTS, pumps chillers, heaters, etc.

I live In the Virgin Islands and my bill is about $350 a month, How does that compare with You guys and "gyals" out there.

Thanks,
Geoff

My tank consumes 100 dollars a month. Recently some people on Reef central said you could run your Halides 5 or 6 hours a day and the corals would be fine. I tried it and the corals did ok but the growth was to slow so now there back up to 8. I figured the switch to 5 hours was saving me 18 dollars a month

I live with my brother (for now) so he pays the electric bills, but if I keep this hobby up, then I might not live here too much longer!!

$145 during winter and about $180 during summer. It's because the wife blasts the A/C and the chiller keeps chugging non-stop on a hot CA summer.

In the winter electric is $40, and summer $120ish. I am lucky in St Louis, but over the river in IL. their bills tripled last year.
I also only have a 1400sqft condo with gas water heater.

My 125g costs about $30-$40 a month last time I checked. My 20g costs around $6/mo

If you didn't know RC has a nice calculator for this. Just make sure you change the KWH rate to what your electric bill says (mine is only $.07)

$390ish for us. 2700 sq/ft 2 story house. Not sure how much exactly is to the reef though. Running 2 250w magnetic ballasts. Switching to electronic tomorrow and anxious to see if I will notice any difference. Then again, it's almost AC time!
