I must have missed this one. Right now I try to have redundancy so I have 6 individual heaters in the commercial sump that all come on and off at different temp levels. May do an inline in the future.
2 HP chiller outside but hoping going all LED/VHO will allow it to run considerably less than under 3 x 1000w halides. Last edited by OzATL; 02/07/2017 at 05:50 PM. Reason: Fix |

Wow I love the thought put into this build. I just now read your entire build and cant wait to see the reboot of it all. Hopefully the reboot will include some more jaw dropping pictures

Very spartan, I think it'll grow in and still leave lots of swimming room. I like it a lot sir.

So that's where that tank went to...
Did you pick it up at last year's Expo? Also, what were your thoughts on Starphire for resisting scratches? I'm planning a 450 build, and I've been recommended standard glass instead of Starphire due to the standard glass being harder. |

My last tank (435G) was starphire and yes it's soft. I ended up putting a scratch on the outside of the front panel due to sand getting in the mag cleaner. lesson learned, store your mag cleaner outside and away from your tank AFTER you rinse the wet side and dust off the dry side. Regular glass has a tint (green) to it in most cases (I'm sure there are exceptions) so I just prefer the starphire. Last tank video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0jkuAU-QGQ |

why the 1.5" sidewall on the roughly 50 gallon QT? (I wont lie, I'm moderately irritated that your QT setup is nicer than my DT haha)
beautiful work

I still have a few smaller pieces to add but added 90% of the sand back over the last few weeks.
Disregard the lighting as there is a temp LED unit in the middle. https://youtu.be/_ZVX9Bewmfo - via iPhone Tapatalk Last edited by OzATL; 02/22/2017 at 06:58 PM. Reason: Vid link |

Added a Hayward diaphram gate valve to fine tune the input to the calcium and sulfur reactors. Works like a charm.
Finally swapped out the sched 40 temp lines to the chiller with sched 80 and added another flow meter in line. - via iPhone Tapatalk |

2 questions:
Why the diaphragm gate valve, instead of a traditional gate valve from Spears or Hayward? What make/model is that flow meter? A lot of the mechanical ones I looked at required uninterrupted pipe before and after equal to 2-3x pipe diameter. |
