lighting decisions maxspect vs radion
I'm in a predicament! I'm buying lighting for my marineland 60 gallon cube. 24x24x27. I plan on having LPS with some SPS corals. The two models I'm having trouble choosing are the Maxspect Razor 120watt 16000k vs echotec radion xr30w Generation 2. Please help with par readings, colors, and growth. Pictures pictures pictures

I had six of the first gen radions. replaced all of them all in less than a year. It was a real hassle. Ecotech has outstanding customer service but, taking down, packing and sending lights back and fourth was just too much. I'm sure the newer models are better but I have doubts of long term longevity of the lights.

The radion pro at least has the best color of any led ive used. The 160 razor I had always looked purple pink.

What do you mean that it gives a pink tone to it? Can't you modify the blues and whites? So you can turn either one up to change the color?

You can but you generally don't want to go too much in white...

OK I've decided I'm going with a razor, I just dont know if I should go 16 or 10. I've read loads of forms and no one really gives a good difference of lighting. I want to know if the 16ks are too blue or if the 10s are too white

Don't get the Razor.
Yes it looks very very cool and is very powerful. I too wanted one untill I read what other posters said about the Purple Color. I went to the Maxspect Facebook Page and OMG were they Right. Here is the Link (Not the Purple Hue). https://www.facebook.com/Maxspect They seriously need to Change this light. Make it look Blue NOT Purple.

I actually love the way that looks lol. Could I not supplement with t5s? Also my tank is 2x2. Should I get the 20" or the 27" is there a rail kit that can be mounted on the tank

I got sick of the purple hue after about a month or two. I wouldn't add t5 simply because it would be nice to reduce complexity not add to it.

To complicate your decision, it looks like they just dropped the radion price 100 bucks at BRS.

Well I guess that swayed my decision. Are the Gen 2 good enough? Would I need the pro?

You know what? The razors still seem more appealing. I don't see why the radion is so much better

Perhaps a week later, that light failed. They sent me another light with return label. Meanwhile,....I kept fighting to keep their Reef Link connected. After a couple of weeks,....they had me send them my logs. After a review they sent me back an Email that stated I n had to have my cable provider (Spectrum) set something to Google. They refused. I now had to go spend a few hundred dollars on cable/networking equipment to do this myself. (Would have been nice to know about this BEFORE purchasing the lights. Now a month later, I come home and yet another light is not working. I went to check the wires and touched the wire from the power supply to the light fixture. So hot that the plastic/rubber shield between the connector had melted and burnt my finger as I tried to unplug them. (They had welded together.) They sent me another light with return label. In setting this up,.....I contacted Ecotech,....they set up the lights Via the Reef Link. Not 10 minutes later,.....yet another light failed. Now they had me send ALL three lights back to them,.....leaving my reef tank with NO lights. Everyone I talk to says these are great lights. My experience,......$3000 of junk! |
