Hawaiian blue throat triggerfish
Hi
I saw this wonderful Hawaiian blue throat triggerfish pair on diver's den area. I read that they are relatively reef safe and was wondering what is the minimum size tank to keep the pair or even a single male. I have a regular 75 gal tank with just 2 clown fish but was wondering if that might be too small for the pair. clear skies Vishnu |

A 75 is probably about half the minimum size you'd want for a pair of Blue-throats. They would be a beautiful addition for a large FOWLR or even reef tank, though...

cool. I guessed a large tank would be needed for a pair. Is it okay to have a single male? or does it need something larger ..

Moonguy,
We suggest a minimum tank size of 70 gallons for Blue Throat Triggerfish. Acronautical is correct, Triggers need plenty of swimming room and larger tanks are preferred. Triggers may also pick at some corals. You may keep a single male or female Triggerfish in your tank. Ginger K. LiveAquaria Drs. Foster & Smith |

cool. Do you suggest that I add it in the end after I finish adding other corals and fish?

moonyguy,
Thank you for contacting us with your additional question. When stocking an aquarium you need to add the shy fish first and the aggressive fish last. A Triggerfish is reef compatible with caution, feeding primarily on bottom dwelling invertebrates, small fish, and some algae.
