How much Chaeto before I empty my ALR2?

We’ve recently got a ALR2, the nitrate and phosphate was high, Coral frags dying etc, it’s brought down the nitrate and Phosphate levels, and took down the algae levels in the tank, but how much Chaeto should be in the reactor before I empty it, we took some out today and put it all back in because it didn’t seem worth it?
