Herbie emergency stand pipes with downward U’s?

I have a 180g dual overflow setup with 2 overflows. They are running as herbies and they are incredibly hard to balance and get the drains to stay level. Is there any downside to running a set of downward U’s on them to quiet the drain noise down? It starts as a trickle then over the course of a few weeks it becomes a stream. Is it possible my vectra m1 isnt keeping a constant flow? What else can I do?

Thanks

You do have Gate Valves on the drains, Ball Valves will not work well.
Everyone says barometric pressure has an effect on this type of system.
Took me a long time to get mine dialed in & I have to be happy with some water in the emergency every once in a while.
As long as it is minimal.

if your sump fluxuates thats probably the problem. head pressure changes and then your overflow changes...and yes gate valves all the way

I have gate valves, the sump is a bashea 48ss and then it has an auto top off. There should be very little fluctuation there :/

could be the vectra, or maybe a air pocket stuck in an elbow in the drain line? with an ato there shouldnt be much fluxuation in the overflow box

It's hard to say. I run flow meters on my main return pump, for example, and it fluctuates between 1,370 and 1,390 throughout the day. Certainly there may be some error in the meters, but I also see varying amounts of water coming through the open channel. Though I now run a bean, when I did run dual herbies on my prior 265 it was impossible to keep the drains perfectly dialed in. I did put a vented U over both of my backups to muffle noise.
