7,000 litres Natural reef tank - Thailand

I would like to introduce my Natural reef tank to members on reef central. My idea is to create a system which could mimic the nature as close as possible . I will try to minimise the use of large protein skimmer but will only use a medium size as back up.
Since I live in Thailand so i decide to make use of abundant sunlight all year round by using Solatube couple with natural sunlight when possible so my tank will be semi outdoor type.

Display tank (glass) : 212 cm x 122 cm x 142 cm
Total volume of water in display tank = 3,673 litres

Sump ( 2 levels)

First level 391 cm x 61 cm x 64 cm = 1526 litres
2nd Level 391 cm x 61 cm x 76 cm = 1813 litres

Total volume of water in sump = 3,339 litres

Overall total water in DT and sump = 7,012 litres

Light : Natural sunlight and Solatube 21 inches

saltwater : natural saltwater in 15,000 litres storage tank
Ro/Di : Locally made
Chiller 1 : Aqua logic titanium coil / 25,000 BTU mitsubishi rotary compressor / Sonic 22,000 litres/ hour pump to circulate the chill water
Chiller 2 : Thai made titanium coil rated at 2hp /20,000 BTU mitsubishi rotary compressor / Sonic 22,000 litres/hour pump to circulate the chill water

Main pump :3x kripsol seawater pump rated at 1 KW, 21,500 litres at 5 metres head
Circulation pump : 4x WP60 Jebao/ 2x WP60 Conch and 2 Tunze sea swirl
Controller : Neptune
Calcium reactor: Schuran Jet 2
Kalk stirrer : Locally made
Po4 remover : Locally made
Carbon reactor : Locally made
Skimmer : Tunze 9440
Ozone: Hailea 2000 grams/hour

Filtering method

2nd level sump: Use of approximately 5 inch mud substrate with total length of 391 cm for about 60 mangroves to grow. The water from 2nd level sump will pass through over flow and pump into Algae turf scrubbers( 2x20 watts LED 12 hours photoperiod) and then down to 1st level sump.
1st level sump: use of ceramic rings and Jaubert deep sand bed with 4 inch substrate and 1/1/2 inch plenum. There is also a refugium which will use to grow Macroalgae.

I need to find a location where I can erect a 15,000 litre seawater storage tank , so I have to move my old water storage tanks out. and replace it with my new seawater storage tank.

So I Have to put a new foundation and a new floor to accommodate a load of over 20 tons from 15,000 litres of seawater and the weight of the tank itself.

Yes quite massive , luckily it is at the rear entrance so it does not effect the environment much.

Close up picture of my sump showing dividers where 4 - 5 inches of mud will be placed as substrate for around 60 mangroves to grow. The mud substrate will act as biological filter to rid of nitrate anaerobically .

If your new build wasn't so epic I would have suggested converting the unused pool to a giant reef aquarium.

That is a great idea because it is a salt water pool already so to convert into a giant reef aquarium would not be that hard

I really like your "as natural as possible" approach and you are lucky that your place on earth facilitates you!
Are you planning having local only inhabitants as well?
Subscribed and looking forward to your natural reef development!

+1 on the natural theme. The Solotubes should work very well in Thailand. Is the natural seawater trucked in from the Gulf? If so, from where? I look forward to following your progress.

You should have us over for a pool party.

Looks like an epic build, I'm subscribed.

Yes ace_92101 , I am talking to the supplier of Solatubes today and to prevent salt creep , I may need to fit natural effects lens and is determining how may sola tubes I will be needing as the tank gets natural sunlight from morning till noon. And yes sea water is trucked from gulf of Thailand, Chong Samesan in Sattahip , Chonburi province . That is in Eastern part of Thailand. Thanks for following my build.

Now after we have filled the dried mud in to each divider of the sump, we proceeded to fill the mud with fresh water and will slowly add more salt water each day as to acclimatise the mangroves.

You should totally link your pool to your new tank on the same system. That would be totally epic. Imagine a giant pool filled with live rock islands and schools of butterflyfish and corals. And you could swim in it !!! But for now a 7000 litre system is quite enough I think LOL.
