Plate coral

What happens when medium size sand particles fall inside the mouth of a plate coral?

It will spit them out. Mine frequently gets covered in sand. At night it puffs up to clear itself, and spits out the sand in it's mouth.

They'll swallow a hermit or snail and spit out the shell after munching on them. No need to worry about a little sand.
