Dennis.. Lol.. I took the cheato garden to the next level.. It's only been up a week, but I will see how it goes.. I'm hoping to fill the tub in short order.. It is lit by 600 watts of led power(i only have the blue and red on right now, but there is a third channel for white only).. So if it works, it should be fabulous! And beautiful patio dude!

From note 5.. rip note 7

I go away for 6 months and look what happens . . .

You go all soft on me and jump to the dark side with LEDs and softies. First cellphones and now this . . . what's this world coming to??????

JK!

Beautifull reef Dennis and an amazing thread!

Took me 2 days to read through, but I loved every minute. Sets a super high bar for when I finally move and start a new tank in a couple 2,3 years from now.

Can't wait to see your progress and succes growing SPS under Radions!

Killer job! Awesome photos! Thanks for sharing!!

Joe

hahaha, welcome back Joe!
This tank is a No Softie Zone. All SPS and LPS. And hefty sprinkling of Gorgonians.
This week I picked up an awesome yellow branching hammer and a frag of Battle Coral's Frankenberry.
Thanks!

Dennis,
Congrats on your continued success. A follow up question re: the TBS shipment. Are any of the original sponges still alive?
Second, I would love a Gorgonian or six.... do you do anything special, like target feeding, to keep them? Or is it the basics, stable water and a diverse feeding of the tank in general?

Hey Dennis, can you talk a little bit about how you're taking photos, and macro photos?

Just got a Canon 80D with a macro lens, but there is a lot to this!!

Thanks,

Howard

The gorgs are photosynthetic so nothing special needed there.
The sponges on the other hand are much much harder. Nearly impossible to keep alive long term in our closed systems.
That said, so far I have only lost one so far. The red finger sponge that was up front and center. The others seem ok so far.
The majority of the tunicates on the rocks have dwindled, but some are still there.

You've got the equipment. Next you need the software, and lotsa practice.
You might find this interesting...

For what it's worth, I use Lightroom to organize and process every single one of my photos, and I make final tweaks in Photoshop where I also apply my watermark. Adobe has the combo available for $10/month. Not too bad. There are also some free raw developers out there, but I don't have personal experience with any of them.

Not sure what happened but during prazi treatment (not even a full dose) something went through the tank that was hindering breathing. Didn't realize what was happening until it was too late to save the tang but the wrasse which was just laying on its side breathing heavy i tossed into a freshwater dip and I guess that removed whatever was blocking his gills because he pretty much immediately recovered and has been fine ever since. This was a couple weeks ago and I've been running CopperSafe since. Humblefish on R 2 R was helping me out with this.

Ah sorry to hear about the tang. Doesn't Prazi itself tend to lower O2 levels in the water? I think I've read that so now when I use it I make sure to add a new airstone to get it as bubbly as possible in the QT.

Yeah, I think the tank is pretty well oxygenated.
And the wrasse was fine after the dip so I think something was clogging the gills?
I dunno... but he's fine now. Will let him sit in the copper for another week or two and then see how he is.

I've had the same problem with Prazipro. I just put a Ruby Head and Blue Star Wrasse through QT. TTM and one round of Prazipro. They were healthy from the start and throughout so it was all prophylactic. I put them into the DT this morning.

Sorry to hear about the Tang. It's never easy.

Now that you've had the tank up for a little while how do you compare this set up to your old life reef setup?

The LR sump was designed for that system and my current BAO sump was designed for this system.
Both work(ed) great.
I would recommend either of them.

How's your starfish doing in that brick like chaeto of yours. Mine has surfaced and sits clinged to the side, because I think he can't move anymore... what's yours doing? Seen him around?

Lol! Think I should move him into the dt?
Might be better life for him in there. I don't think he can move around enough in my chaeto brick.
What would you do if you found yours?

He stays put.
I already have one of those plus one or two other serpents in the display.
