Copperband butterfly
Does anyone know if you can have more than one of these in a tank or will they fight?

Yes this is possible, I had a pair.
But these are not easy to pair. Juveniles see eachother as competition. Only sexual mature individuals can be paired. There is a theory that males have a steeper forehead so the angle between the beak and forehead is smaller. That is how i choose a small one that i asumed was a male to be acclimated and grown to adulthood before adding it to the female. It worked. In a 800 l tank.

Thanks for the input huig. How long have you had the pair?
You’re right about the juveniles. Even though they sometimes hang around as pairs on reefs, wild collected ‘pairs’ seldom get along for more than a few months in captivity. Large adult wild collected pairs are seldom on offer as they’re not profitable for our local divers to collect. Purchasing individuals from imports is even more risky IME. For the OP, good luck if you decide to try and please update on your progress. |
