Well after a 3 day setback the tank is up and running with freshwater. If all goes well with the next couple days I will drain and refill with the saltwater and off she goes. I have a 10 gallon tank as a temporary sump until I can decide on and overkill 40 breeder, a 29 gallon or build myself an acrylic sump. Decisions ... decisions ...

Not if you build it yourself from scrap! Time to start digging and scrounging To bad industrial safety and supply isn't around with their scrap bin anymore.

No new pics as of yet. Its been running for 3 days now and its been clouding up on me. I think the uncured dry rock I have in there is kicking a freshwater cycle. Im gonna drain tomorrow and put in my sump, refill with RO/DI and reef crystals, then off we go.

UPDATE! Pics tomorrow!
Over the weekend I put a 2nd coat of epoxy and sand on the background to be safe. Placed it in the tank and siliconed the top only to the back of the tank. Rinsed out all my sand. Went over to the MADTANKS R&D lab to glue in a baffle and filter sock holder and complete my sump. Put sand in and filled with RO/DI water.
Now Im just waiting for the tank to come up to temp so I can add my salt.

They were just behind my last post, you didnt see them?

OK here's some pics. Full Tank and Stand.

Left side shot. All aquascaping minus the background is not set.

Overflow with Mag 9.5 return through a SCWD .

Finally the sump shot.

Tomorrow I will clean and put in the skimmer, Start water testing for the cycle and prepare the stand for the fuge. The fuge will be fed by that ball valve on the right and drain into the main sump.

May cool.. I like the fuge.

Is there any issue with the water settling behind the rock wall in between the overflow?

Thats actually the sump. It will house a filter sock on the drain, skimmer, carbon and gfo reactor, heaters and return pump. The fuge will be about 10 gallons and sit raised up on a stand to the rightof the sump. It will be fed directly by the overflow and get about 25% of the water with the other 75% going to the sump. Then it will gravity feed back into the sump.
I dont know about the flow behind the wall yet. I figured if I siliconed it all the way around it would be half sealed and dead water spots. I think if I have good water flow it should circulate some. Im also hoping it will be a good place for pods to hide out and breed moving in and out and also circulating water. Regardless it will be easy to direct a little flow there or blow it out with a powerhead fairly often if needed.

The tank has been running for 7 days now. I'm not 100% sure on the test kit. Its a borrowed Aquarium Pharmaceuticals and I have heard and personally had mixed results with this brand. I put a nice pinch of food in the tank for 3 days and now on day 7 still have no readable ammonia. May have a store double check but I usually see something by the first week. I placed a small 1/2 pound piece of LR in on day 3 also to help seed some bacteria. I am seeing some algae or diatom growth on the glass though.

I had some time today and started on the hood.

Here is some tank shots still missing some rock, but not a lot. I want to leave a lot of room for coral growth.

Here is my 4 year old asking how much longer is this build going to take.

Next step is hopefully finish the hood and columns on the left and right this week. Possibly get the bottom trim done.
