XR30 g4 pro fan noise question

Hi

I just read and want to confirm that the fan stays on on the XR30 and is quite loud. Is that correct?

I had my local shop order me 2 XR30. Now I’m thinking I should have gone with 15’s.

Hopefully my lfs can exchange them

I have had 4 of the gen 4's for about a year and yes the fans do stay on 24/7, but I can't hear them until I get my ear within a foot of them.
Standing in front of the tank, normal viewing distance ( 2-3 feet away) I do not hear them.

I have no idea how you don't hear them. I sleep on the 3rd floor of my townhouse and I can clearly hear the xr30 from my bed at night. I regret buying these lights.

Why are the fans on all the time if the lights aren't?

The fans can vary speed depending on temperature of the light, if the lights are geared up to 100%, you will hear them wail, but if the lights power are low or off, they're seemingly quiet. if you can hear them from 3 stories away, you either have GREAT hearing and I envy you, the the fans need a good cleaning, or you have a faulty fan.

The lights are in the worst spot they can be in regard to condensation they sit above a warm tank and as water evaporates it can collect and pool inside the light fixture, the idea is to have the fans running at a low speed to prevent that from happening.

If that’s true, why are the fans in the 15s not on all the time?
