I lost interest in my tank shortly after all of the problems but kept it running. No improvements or changes for a very long time. A few months ago I grabbed the bull by the horns and looked at my tank again and also asked Jordan from Peters Reef Pond in the local area to help me figure out why my corals aren’t thriving. My low ph and high phosphate levels. Long story short. Got 3 of my fish out of the tank, 2 Foxfaces and my big Vlamimgii Surgeon. Used Agent Green a few times changed to pellets using 2 auto feeders and did/try weekly water changes. My corals are all open and extended growing and thriving. My fish are eating fish food not nibbling on corals. My ph is now up to 8.3 – 8.4 mid-day. I have lost a lot of corals in the past ran in circles trying to figure out what and how, I am glad I kept trying and didn’t give up.

Nice to see you stuck it out. The tank is looking great. Congrats on getting it back on track. What'd the dimension's of your sump?

Novel way to access. What materials did you use? you have any details to share on this part of the build?

I used Faux Stone siding http://genstoneproducts.com glued onto an aluminum frame to make it easy to remove for access.

I also finished the lids for the sump, this has cut down on the water evaporation amount.

The splashing noise from the filter socks is as good as gone now with the lids in place.

Thanks for the reply. Did you have it made or was the baffles and filter sock holder done by yourself? I like the way it's setup and also having it closed off.

The sump was made by Miracles including the dividers, the only thing I made from plexiglass are the filter sock holder ledge.

After nearly 10 years in the hobby with home made led lights and loosing coral after coral over the years I have made the change to 4 Kessil a360x lights.
The maximum par from my home made leds at the waterline was 105 par. The new a360x Kessil lights have that at 29% intensity.
I have checked what it would be at 100% at the waterline 375-460!

So after getting my tank cleaned up and looking good I got Dinos! I found online a treatment to deal with them effectively. Dr. Tim's two part treatment.
I followed the instructions and everything seemed fine until everything turned milky white and the PH dropped all the way down to 7.42!!!
I did a 10% water change but didn't seem to help much, another 30 gallons to keep up with the skimmer to replenish the wast water. Never again!!!
Just wanted someone to learn from my experience.

It's back! red slime algae/cyanobacteria.

All on one piece of rock. Now what? I hate to use Chemiclean. It works but the water changes and baby sitting the skimmer for hours after. Anyone have a better idea?

I started up a Korallin BioDenitrator S-3002 yesterday to combat the nitrate
levels in my tank to stop the outbreaks of Cyanobacteria or Dinoflagellates.If not stop at least minimize the chance of them occurring.

This will apparently take a month or so before I can expect the reactor to kick in and measure any drop in nitrate levels in the tank.

DT is now reading ~5ppm. BUT Alk is consumed at a staggering rate.

When more S beads need to be added, remove the coral chunks that they included with the pkg...it doesn't work in buffering the acidic environment as it's all in the same chamber. Ideally the effluent should go into a second chamber to buffer up the pH like a dual stage Ca-Rx

Get a tallish open top plastic container and drill a few fine holes in the bottom. Fill with aragonite/crushed coral, coral chunks and hang off the inside of the sump. Have the S-Rx effluent drip into that to buffer up the pH.

The Korallin BioDenitrator was getting dirty but it still worked fine.
The dirt showed up after I used GFO, maybe just a coincidence or maybe not?

I simply rinsed the pure Sulfur media and the Aragonite with RO water on filter floss a couple of times.

Now looks like it did when I first started it 7 month ago. Set the drip to 1 drip per second and start testing again every day.

I hope that it will start as fast again as it did the first time. It took less than 2 weeks last time to get to automatic mode.
