Biocube Fan Issue
I came home this afternoon to find my 14 gal biocube on and making a strange noise. The noise is coming from the canopy, and I believe it's from the fan. The housing was a bit warmer than I think it usually gets, and had a bit of a smell to it so I shut the lights off.
Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions? Also, how long can I keep my take in the dark, I just have a small LED stunner strip running now. Thanks! |

this use to happen when I had the hood on my aquapod. I would smack the crap out of the hood and eventually it would stop making the noise.
what finally got the noise to stop was that I took a can of air and just shot it through the vents. it seems there was too much dust in there or something (i dunno). The noise went away right after the can. |

They all do this at some point. I called the company and they sent me some new ones. Those lasted about 4-5 months and they started making that god aweful noise. Right now I'm running the stock fans with an additional stealth fan from my RapidLED kit an the temps stay under control. When I have time, I will probably upgrade the stock fans. Computer fans are not expensive. Might as well get something that might last more than 6 months without crapping out.

Thanks for the input everyone. Going to see let it run and keep an eye on temp to see if the issue resolves itself. If not I'll be picking up some new ones tomorrow. What do you all think of the fans which have LED's built in? Worth springing for them?

Why would you want LEDs on the fans? Just curious. I would definitely get something aftermarket. The stock fans suck, and the replacements suck just as much. You may have to get creative mounting the aftermarket ones, unless you find ones the same size. Check out nano-reef.com. They have a great Biocube owners thread that goes into all the mods you can do and a lot of DIY stuff as well.
Sorry if I'm not allowed to post another sites info. GL! |
