Attaching Glass to Stone Tile

I have a little project i'm working on. Not ready to show it yet but I think it is going to work out awesome.

Looking to mount some glass to 4" tavertine tiles. The kind we often use for frag grow out. I have a smooth glass surface about the size of a quarter that will mount to the center of the tile. Needs to be a relatively permanent bond that is reef safe.

I was thinking momentive rtv but figured it would probably not stick to the tile for very long. My best guess right now is just like how I do frags... A blob of reef epoxy with super glue on both sides then mash the glass piece on it and let it cure.

Any ideas?

There are numerous 2 part epoxies that will easily bond glass/tile..
You can easily find one at any hardware/diy store..

Just like this stuff.. All will be reef safe AFTER cured.

I would think epoxie would be the best choice. It would stick to the travertine better then silicone

3M 5200. That stuff once it’s cured is about as permanent as it gets.

Hmm 3m 5200 looks promising. Reef safe correct? Will be permanently submerged.

I will try both epoxy and 5200 with scrap glass first.

3M 5200 is probably the premium adhesive for use in and under water. Just pay attention to the cure times. It's completely safe for use in an aquarium, again, after full cure.

I gave up for now trying to get a good picture. The art reflects too much light straight into the sensor. I'll figure it out but it may take a while

My friends down at The Furnace Glassworks blow glass art and make these pieces of art that mount to walls. I got this idea that I could use them inside BTA propagation tanks and that hopefully they would give the BTAs something to attach too, be comfortable, and be easy to peel off without damaging their feet.

This is the collection of pieces we came up with.


I used the 3M 5200 to attach a handful of the pieces to 4in tavertine tiles, the same ones people use in fragging. I wanted a few of them to sit upright and a few of them to lay on their sides.

Here are the tanks. I basically just threw a handful into each tank. They look pretty cool and with the LEDs on suprising they don't glow all that much.

I'm sure I will move pieces around to make them look better. I have about a dozen left to use in the Sunburst tank as well so I didn't want to stuff these full. Hope the Nems like them... if they don't I'm going to have a really cool wall in the house, this is about $5000 in art inside fish tanks

That website reminds me of going to the corning museum of glass and taking a glass blowing workshop.

I was close though, I was thinking glass frag plugs. Cool idea BTW!
