My only comment is that I believe there are two variants, one with a white band and one with a golf band. I might be wrong on that though.

I've had one for 2 years roughly. Grew up from a 3.5-4" Adult Color form, to now 8-9" roughly!
Spent all his life in the shark pond and only QT/Hospitalized in aquaria. A Catshark bit out a huge portion of dorsal fin and flesh. Fungal and bacterial infection had started. I was shocked when the treatment was complete and the angel was eating with gust less than 2 weeks later. So in saying that, they are super hardy and I've heard other owners call them "bulletproof". He's grown quickly. In two years double his length and width. Strong fish that holds his own in an aggressive environment but doesn't bother the other fish at all. I believe that is a space issue. |

Congratulations on your new maculosus!! I've had mine for about a year, and she is hands down one of my favorite fish. Got her from DD at about 3" and she's grown to just over 6". She was in a 120 for most of that time before I moved her to my pool a couple months ago. She's always been a very shy fish, and spends most of the time in or near the rocks. Even though she was the first angel in my system, she has never shown any sort of aggression to other fish - including other angels, and has never had any aggression directed toward her.
Because of my top down system, and the fact that she's quite shy, it's tough to get good pics of her (I'll keep trying and post should one turn out a little better), but here is her DD pic from a year ago (I guess I can be a little sentimental when it comes to my fish and keep all of their DD pics), and one of her in a favorite hiding spot. |

Thank you! Yours as well! Is that the one that was on DD recently? From the video, yours seems very similar to mine in terms of behavior, which is a little contradictory to almost everything I've read (outgoing, pushy, always out in the open, aggressive toward tankmates, etc...). I have to admit that I'm a bit jealous that you get to watch yours transition to adult coloration! Mine is just about there, however the yellow band is still fully connected to the dorsal.

And thanks for your info... I actually haven't read anything about them being mean or nice, to be honest. I don't think a lot of people keep this fish.

Gorgeous fish!
I'll also add, mine is very shy as well. Hides when she sees me standing around. |

Wish I could be more exact, but after scouring the videos I have uploaded, I see her pop up in a video from April 5th, 2013. So between a year and a half and two years. I believe I picked her up locally in an LFS after an Africa shipment came in, in the Winter 2012-2013.

She's doing well. I bit of lympho on the pectoral fins, and still super shy, but eats well. Still in QT.

She's doing well! Shy as ever, although shyness is not necessarily a bad thing with an angel that can reach her potential adult size. It may take her a bit longer than the rest of my fish to get used to the new aquascaping though.

Peter- if I am not mistaken, don't you have a gorgeous Asfur angel?
I believe it was you that inspired me to purchase one! Despite their similarities in appearance, they are two very different personalities! The Asfur has been a bully and pugnacious from literally the moment it was introduced. He's been removed, into an observation tank while I figure out what was the cause of his injuries. Perhaps I missed your most recent stock list changes... |

My Asfur was a butt too. I removed him because he was a bully to my Moorish Idol.

I keep a 10" mac in an account tank, and it is definitely the boss. It chases fish from time to time but not bad. They become more personable as they age and aren't near as shy as asfurs once they get a little size to them. My prediction by judging the width of the rest of your fish is you'll have a very large fish in short order, as they do grow fast.
