Last week I added the Reefcleaners 20G CUC, picked up a Hydrogalaxy LED light and today my fiancée well son noticed 1 clown jumped out and landed on the glass. RIP nemo, time for a new buddy for the other.

I have always heard that bio wheels are freshwater ONLY.

Although, I don't know why....

Stay away from Canister filters they become overpriced nitrate factories in saltwater tanks. You have the right idea with the HOB. There will be a little bit of spray, but nothing ridiculous. I ran a Fluval 50 on my 36 gallon bowfront for about a year without much difficulty/maintenance. As for the sound that SFish mentioned? I don't get that one at all. My 90 gallon with Glass tops is every bit as noisy (if not more so) than my 36 HOB setup. As for HOB skimmers, I had an Eshoppes PSK-75H that worked well.

Also, for the long run I would recommend switching to Red Sea, Salifert or just about any test kit other than API. Much more accurate for nitrates and easier to tell on the color chart.

Picked up this 75 for $65. Prob sell tank, euro reef skimmer and refinish stand/canopy with a re-paint.

Hard time trusting used tanks esp with hardwood floor. Can get a new Aqueon tank for $280-350 locally.

Awesome. I'm looking to get some more fish for mine. Just added a really cool clown. Not sure if I wanna trust a dwarf angel as I'm planning to go mixed reef.

I wouldn’t do a dwarf, got one last weekend and was dead in 18hours or less. One of my crabs got him prior, thinking he was sick when I got him.

He was a bi-color angel.

Man that's too bad. I never had luck with gobies. They never seemed to take the frozen food I feed.

.
I have never had a sump. I have for years been running a Fluval FX6 on all my systems. Canister are not nitrate factories.

Yet they are the most problematic filtration method in marine tanks. I have yet to see a person with a HOB filter or sump that had a nitrate problem that could be solved by switching to a canister filter. I cannot say the same for canister filters.

As long as you clean the canister you will be fine. The same can be said for filter socks...if you don't change them they will be a problem. I have been running FX systems for years without problems.

Andddddd my tank crashed, 4 fish toast but snails/crabs ok. Watchman goby was on the floor, scopas tang accounted for and 2 clowns prob became crab dinner.

Found them late Tuesday, saw them that morning. Did a water change Monday with my rodi, splash of prime and done as usual. I did pull the cartridge in my penguin 350 and toss it in garbage. Could it have released/spike something? Wasn’t that dirty but was going to try and run no carbon pads.

Salinity ok in bucket pre-wc and in tank. Water tests came back good minus a hair of ammonia prob from the decaying fish we didn’t notice. Thoughts, fiancé and I are stumped.

Hi all, me again! I’m starting to think that it was stagnant water in my HOB filter. What are the odds stagnant water/detritus was released when I pulled my dirty filter cartridge poisoned my fish and not snails?

Broke down the tank, kept my extra 36x18 stand though for a future 40B or 65G build.

Also picked up a Proflex sump since dr Foster has 50% off. Figured model 3 may be overkill but everyone says go as big as you can! Lol not bad for $140
