Randy’s Recipe
I use randy’s recipe and have calcium carbonate ppt in my sump and on equipment. I dose 1 hr apart I’m thinking of changing to ATI essentials because I’m dosing over 300mL all per day to keep my alk over 7. I checked mid day yesterday alk was 8.7 and this morning it was 7.2. Is this jump big enough to cause necrosis on the tips of my acro? Lost my blue ten and tip of milli. My calcium was 411 and mg 1500
Tank is reefer 525xl 2x mp40s on full lagoon mode, 3x Radions just at a loss what I’m doing wrong with acro. LPS are fine |

I would try dosing into the main display, if you're not already. Sumps often are too small to handle the load. Dosing more slowly or switching the the recipe 2 low pH formula might help, too.

For perspective i'm dosing 350 mL of alk and 300 mL of calcium daily. Not sure how these figures stack up with others that have a similar volume? Additionally is my alk swing something that could cause necrosis? I'm trying to find the source of the problem my understanding is anything over 7 is fine but when it's a daily swing of 8.7-7.2 i'm unsure. |

Typically people recommend no more than a .5 to 1 dKH swing in 24 hours.. Do you not just dose multiple times a day? Thats best to avoid any swing.. Split the daily dosage into 4 smaller doses (or more if you want).. That can certainly help too as you aren't dumping in so much at one time..

I agree that smaller doses spread over more time probably are a good idea.
