Blue Jaw Triggerfish

I have a blue Jaw triggerfish that does not want to eat. I got him less than 5 days ago. He is scared of people and other fish in the tank.

I have had my blue jaw trigger for about a 1.5 years. He took a few days before he would eat and was very shy. I would have to sneak around the tank and move very slow and drop in the food the 1st few months. He remained shy until the last 6 months or so. I have been working around the tank allot the last 6 months slowly doing some equipment upgrades and adding coral so he has gotten used to me. He actually will even let me pet him when feeding now. My 8 year old son wanted to feed him last weekend because I showed him that he would eat out of my hand and He bit his finger accidentally LOL. . He has became my favorite fish the last months and has a great personality. Just give him time and try some new foods and maybe a new feeding strategy. Good luck!

He started with blue zoos food ( where I purchased him) and mysis. Now he eats about anything. But I feed a mix of Rods Foods original, pacific plankton, predator blend, hikari S pellets, hikari freeze dried krill ( I have a lyretail anthias) he eats the bigger pcs and the anthias gets the smaller ones. Some flake when in a hurry.

Mine was the same way. I got him to start eating with Krill. Now he eats everything from frozen to pellets to nori. One of my favorite fish, good luck!

Mine started off slow to eat and shy as well. He started eating PE Mysis on the second day and now eats everything (5 months later). He's still pretty shy, but comes out to eat and will eat out of my hands before retreating for cover. He cruises the back of the tank and around a powerhead throughout the day when he's out. He did lose his blue throat though after about 2 weeks. It's faint to non-existent.

I added a female yesterday, but was really concerned after researching that it doesn't always go well. I'm pretty sure she's a female due to the coloration, but from what I've read (and the lack of color on my male now) I could be mistaken. Her fail is a golden/brownish color. I did remove my yellow angel from the equation due to initial harassment. We'll see how things are going when I get home today. Of note, adding the female brought the male to life. He was all over the tank this morning and seemed pretty happy.

If you can find it, all of my picky fish love LRS fish frenzy.

The blue throat seems to come and go with mine. He also cruises into the powerheads and jumps often-I have a canopy.

I watched mine ride the return pump across the tank for 10 minutes last night. When I walked away he stopped. I think he was showing off.

There’s half the problem.

Tank mates or by himself?

Tank mates. Nothing big just a clown, coral beauty, lyre-tail anthias, six line wrasse and watchman goby. I never said there was a problem? Just he is a funny fish.

Try some live food such as brine or LIVE BLOOD WORMS. If that doesn’t work, there may be something wrong with him.

Someone also mentioned one LRS’s line if frozen foods. They are top notch, human quality table food, plus there is massive amount of other nutrients and probiotics. You can’t get any better unless you made yourself, which is what I do. I breed, so I need to feed a lot so it pays to make my own. Huge difference from commercial foods.

How do you tell the difference in sexes?
. I breed and have 1 “dusky” jawfish. I would like to get some to breed out. I haven’t done my homework yet on the jawfish species. They’re so may to choose from.
