your tank is amazing! I like the aquascape!!

my tank is currently running on a DSB (5 inches in one of the sump's compartment) with macro algae. I am thinking of moving to the pellets because I think the size of the DSB is not sufficient to take the load of the tank as I add more SPS and fish. Few questions and hope you or anyone here can comment on:

1) how to remove the DSB or is it required to do so?
2) how to make the transition from DSB with algae to the pellets?
3) is pellet the right way forward?

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words kensai!!! as per your question pertaining to DSB. I do not have any experience with them so I hope someone else from RC will answer your question.

Size doesn't matter.
Your tank is one of the best SPS tank I've seen. And all the pictures you shot are so incredible.
Thank you so much for sharing.

Just one question, why do you change the lighting from MH to T5?

Nice tank/pics! What lens are you using? Are these taken with a tripod?

Thanks!

Thanks chingchai!! your to kind!!! am lost for words!!!

I've changed to T5 as I've seen a lot of successful tank with T5 lighting. More than anything it's the color in those corals that impressed me the most. Unfortunately even with a slow acclimation process from MH to T5 I still lost a handful of corals. The tank has seen better, but am determined to have the tank back to it's glory days!!!

On a side note your tank has always been amazing!!!

Thank you firewill65!

Most of the close-up shots were taken with a 100mm Canon macro lens. The rest of the pictures were taken with ether 18-200mm Canon lens or 28mm Sigma lens. As much as possible I try to use a tripod as well as timer. Hope this helps!

Yeah, im lost as to why you went to T5...your tank was one of the nicest around here with halides. Just goes to show, even the masters get bored!lol Tank looks fantastic, I wish you continued success.

Also youve convinced me not to go the pellet route now that ive run up against rising nutrients that arent being controlled by my fuge and waterchanges. Ill stick to vodka and bacteria if I go that route. Thanks for documenting such a great tank!

Thanks for the kind words chrishayes!!!

As per my other post, I've always wanted to change to T5 and with my MH fixture failing that was a very good segue for me to switch to T5. Don't get me wrong I was happy with the color and growth that I've archived with the MH, but I know that the color that I've achieved was only 75% of the true color potential of the corals that I have. The remaining corals are now staring to show there true potentials, colors that I did not see when I was only running MH.

The one good thing about using vodka is that you can control it vs pellets. You can certainly use the recommended amount or if you really want to take things slow then you can do this as well.

on a side note, I know it's not SPS but it's certainly a very good addition to the reefing community!!!!!

I cant believe that this system will be celebrating it's third Christmas, so I thought I'd see how far the system has gone! just a few side notes, this summer wasn't very friendly with the system as I ended up loosing significant amount of frags and colonies and the remaining corals also lost significant amount of color. It seems like this time last year was still the best the tank have seen.....

Happy Holidays everyone!!!!!
