Mag rescue...and so it begins.

Dropped by my LFS today (hi dude who sold this to me, I know you hang out here) and they had 3 Mags and a Gig.

Mag #1 was really healthy looking, has not deflated since arrival but was brown. Column, tents and disk.

Mag #2 was healthy-ish looking and had same colouration as above with the added bonus of slightly white tips.

Mag #3 was fully deflated, mouth wide open, looked like hell. But it had a red base, blue/purple tents and neon green tips. Plus they’d give it to me at cost since it looked like hell. Foot is fine and it’s been running inflate/deflate cycle since it came in. It is not sticky, but the tents are pretty active.

You already know which one I brought home.

It’s in a hospital tank, running standard cipro protocol. It’s perched on top of a Jar Jar Binks mug (gag gift) which interesting has similar colour and texture to the column, so you have to look at these pics closely to see where one ends and the next begins.

Good luck, but it looks like it's in bad shape

Woke up this morning and tank was so cloudy that I couldn’t even see the nem. Reached in blind and gently scooped it into a small glass vessel while I did a complete water change.

Put it back into hospital tank with new water and cipro. It looks worse than yesterday, I think it is losing tissue integrity, I see what I think are micro-tears on the oral disk. It is still twitching tentacles and struggling to inflate (I can see it moving water in and inflating in areas). It appears to still have some control of its mouth. I don’t have a lot of hope for it but as long as it’s still trying, I’ll keep it in clean, fresh, medicated water.

As long as it can still inflate then it can still take in meds. Good luck!

Nope, total loss of tissue integrity overnight, poor thing was obviously quite dead when I went to do a water change. Argh.

Oh well, I suppose I knew that it was a long shot.

Sucks. It always seems to be the nicest ones that don’t make it. Hopefully a better one will come in soon. I’ve been looking for a purple and green one for about 2 years with no luck.

Where do you look? I’m not even that picky about colour morph, just prefer it to not be brown on brown .

Mostly just a local store that goes to the wholesaler and looks for me every week. He brings in some pretty nice ones sometimes but no purple and green so far. Also keep an eye on eBay. I’ve gotten a couple nice anemones from there. Aquatic collection in CA gets some nice stuff too.

How do you order from Aquatic Collection? I don't see anything on their website.

I just call and ask if they have what I’m looking for. Then they will usually text pics. You’ll still almost definitely need cipro with their mags and gigs though.

Liveaquaria has some in stock now. Crap shoot on the color but $109 with free shipping might be worth the risk.

They don't regularly update their website. Best to follow them on Facebook as they post livestock updates. I've seen a drop off of both gigs and mags lately. A few months ago they were getting them in frequently.
