The 300w Mars aqua might be a good bet then. Instead of 2x 165 w black boxes. That is what I was going to do but found a Reef breeders photon 24 for a good price for my 40b

I had a 300w mars Aqua over a 24" deep tank and it made my zoas in the sand not want to open from too much light.

Hi guys, I'm currently looking at upgrading. I have been looking at either a 60x30x24 or a 72x30x24, now with regarding the lights it will be primarily Marsaqua and T5 for supplemental lighting. I'm not sure on what would be the best configuration to to with, knowing that the tank will 75% SPS (some high demanding) and 25% LPS what would you suggest?
4 x Marsaqua 300 (parallel) with 3 x t5 ( front between back) 6 x Marsaqua 165 (parallel) with 3 x t5 ( front between back) 6 x Marsaqua 165 (scattered) with 2 x t5 ( front back) Or do think that none of these with be adequate for what I'm after in terms of corals? |

Also just put in my order for the 169w cob led fixture from popular grow. I'll make a full video review of it and again at 6 months and a year from now. I will endure all ups and downs with it and give an honest opinion on it. I do love my corals but I'll be as subjective as possible.
( also super excited to get them! And bear in mind I'm running this on a 20 long with unstable nutrients and will be sps this coming year.) FYI anyone wanna trade some sps for some lps? |

Originally I was going to go for a 40B build but instead dived back into the 75G world. I am picking up the tank, stand, and canopy tonight. 48" tank, should I do 2 165W or 1 300W?

I think you can get better spread with 2x 165. The 300w is only 24" wide iirc. The 165 will be 32"wide total. With 8" between the fixtures it should be about perfect.

Marsaqua 300w is 32". To cover 48" I'd probably go with a 300w and a 165w, mounted end to end and parallel to the front of the aquarium. For more coverage, either remove the lenses and raise the fixtures or carefully consider your coral placement. These fixtures with the stock lens are highly directional (good thing for depth penetration).
Use a PAR meter to set them up, and shoot for about 200PAR at mid-to-top of your reef. This is very important. Cheers, Ray Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Reef breeders use bridgelux leds. Same as mars Aqua. Only difference between them is that the reefbreeders has controllers.

Find an eBay seller and ask them for a replacement. Usually 25 bucks.

Does anyone have any pictures of corals poping with the actinic turned up? I saw one of these Mars Aqua lights at a LFS I believe. Any pictures of Acans?

Does anyone make one of the 300w longer versions with the timer built in and single plugs like some of the smaller units have? I have a 180 gal. 6' tank, was going to use 3 of the 165 watt versions but I would get more coverage out of 2 of the 300 watt versions.

Whats your guys cost per month for these lights? I assume most people run the blues around 75% and White a lot less.

Hi
I currently have a model very similar to mars LED lights mine are 165w Chinese led light over a LED frag tank but not sure what intensity to run these at. My tank is 36 x 12x 15. The tank is 15" high and the light sits about 20" high from bottom of the tank. So about 5" from the top of the tank. I only about 10" worth of water in the tank so from the waterline to the LED its about 10" distance. Volume of water is about 70L, Sorry i know its confusing. I have had some hammer corals in there and some zoas and Duncan coral with some Favia, everything is doing well except the hammer coral. It has gone from a fairly strong green colour to a pale transparent colour in 2 months I have had them in there. I suspect it might be the light as the nitrates in there is about 2ppm -5ppm and phosphates sit about 0.024-0.03-0.04. I am getting some considerable algae growth in there which I assume is keeping nutrients in check because i was feeding the corals once a week. I clean the algae and do water changes every week. I run these LED at about 35% white Channel and also 35% the blue channel. Is my intensity too low or too high, since the light is not situated very high off the tank is the reason why i have not ventured up much higher than these levels. any advice would be appreciated. Dimmer One(28 LEDs): Cool White 14,000k, Warm White 2700k, Red 660nm, Green 520nm Dimmer Two(27 LEDs): Royal Blue, Purple ,Blue |
