What size tank would you choose...

We just sold our current home and purchased a newer home. There are only a few spots to put a tank that I would like. My current tank is 36x24x25.

I’m looking to get either two of the tanks listed below as it would fit to the side of our fireplace in a little nook and I wouldn’t lose any real floor space...

48x24x25

OR

48x36x25

Any opinions? Pros/cons?

Or I could still fit a basic size tank on a basic wall, for example 72x24x25

Thanks in advance!

Deep (front to back) tanks are what I really like now...I will never do another less than 24 deep...so either of those 2 would be good for me

24" min the 36" would be nice but I wouldn't want it unless it was a peninsula where you can reach the center from both sides. I don't like getting my armpits eel

Very true.

I would only be able to reach in via the front panel and left panel. The new tank will be in a “corner” so to speak. Front panel will face the living room, left panel will face the kitchen. Back panel and right panel will be against walls.

I’ll try to get a diagram loaded.

I like my current 24” wide tank, but man 36” would really open it up.

Here is my crude drawing of the room layout. I was thinking to have the 36” tank jet out past the wall by 12”, almost to give the tank a three sided view.

With that layout 36" at minimum. Might want to even consider 42" or even a 48" cube.

After a long talk with my fiancé I think we have decided to scrap the idea of putting it beside the fireplace. Only because she agreed that I could go slightly larger, sweet! But in return she gets new furniture haha! Deal!

60”x36”x25” = 240’ish

Here is yet again another crude drawing of what my plans are...

I'm setting up a similar tank that I am building out of plywood and we'll be in a corner. 48 x 36 x 26

My main concern is with the canopy. I'm not sure how I want to construct it to make it accessible

Now, should I go with the basic internal overflow(3 holes), or go with an external(3 holes)?? For example a ghost/stealth/shadow/etc???

I'm using an external Coast to Coast overflow, with a bean animal drain system

I think I’ll probably order a “standard” tank and drill it myself with a synergy from BRS.

Any opinions on that setup?

If you go stock go with SC Aquariums and get the 5 x 2 x2 tank much better than the standard 120, go with the ghost overflow.

Semi custom 60 x30 x24

If you want tangs 84 x 30 x24.

My dream tank without my tangs would be 36 x30 x 24 with a single 250 radium with led supplement.

I think we have decided on a rimless 60x36x24 and I’ll drill it

You don’t think a 60”x36”x24” wouldn’t support any types of tangs? I understand length isn’t huge on this tank but there will be a good amount of open space being it’s 36”wide IMO.

60x36 will absolutely support tangs. I mean I wouldn't go full tang fiesta with 20 or anything. But have a few and you're good to go, more so if they're the lesser aggressive ones (stay away from Sohols and Achilles)

Absolutely, one or two is all we want

That would be fine then. Usually I want 2 tangs in most tang, one "scrapper" (Bristletooth) which tends to be a more docile tang (although this isn't always the case) and one picker (Zebrasoma) which can be a bit more aggressive. But get them somewhat small, make sure they don't have similar color patterns and you should be fine.

I have 4 tangs in my 48/48/24 cube. Yellow, purple, sailfin, and hippo, had them all since they where small and no issues a few years later. Good open rockwork allows them to swim feeely.

This could be hype, but this looked like a great idea that nobody has been talking about.

I definitely like the 35” size, talk about great surface skimming!
