I'd get one of the Jebao DC pumps. They have multiple flow rates, a 10 min feeding cycle and a soft start feature. Not to mention they reun dead quiet and barely create any heat at all. I have an older DC12000 used externally (they don't recommend doing that) and at nearly 3 years old it still runs just fine and is barely warm to the touch.

Those DC pumps are a good idea. I'd also think about a trusty old Mag 7.

All good options.

I would look for a pump that would give you 350-400 gph at the tank.

Sicce Syncra Silent 2.0
Eheim 1260 and a Tunze 1073.020 might need a valve to slow it down a little, but are good pumps.

never used a dc pump for a return but have used a mag 9, eheim 1262, and a tunze and all have worked great, now i'm using a blueline pump as my sump is in the basement and needed the high head pressure and wanted external this time.

I like the idea of an adjustable pump but I went with the eheim compact plus for both my tanks, I like them.
