Tired many, red sea pro is the winner for me too. High range (>4ppm) and low range (<4ppm) testing is great and colors (i hate reading colors) are easy enough to judge. The main downer about this test is the duration of 9 minutes. Start this one first and then do a few faster ones while you wait.

They all work IME, although I'm not really looking for a precise reading, more of a ballpark figure. This is really all you need.

Ive recently been using the NYOS kit. While it's not super accurate, most of us are just looking for something in the trace to <4 range which it's perfect for. Super simple test, and very easy color comparisons, and ready to read in 5 minutes.
If you want low range down to .25 then the red sea pro is what I would go for. Only downside I've ever encountered with the Red Sea kit is the amount of time it takes to run the test, and the pinks are so close in color I find it hard to match up.

Tried so many, none are really more accurate than others as far as nitrates go. So tough to distinguish colors.... Red Sea is what I am currently using until the reagent runs out. Then ???

Solid and balanced advice! Even if you have perfect eyesight, and can match the color 100%, is that result a true number? I hope with hobby grade kits, it's maybe close (I hope and trust) |
