In your first photo I really love the structure you designed on the left.
In the end, you want to create an interesting structure for you, since you are the one who is going to be looking at it the most. Secondly, think about what sort of fish or coral you may add to your tank. If they have certain requirements that your rockwork could help. For instance: I realize this isn't a direct requirement, but most people put green star polyp frags on an "island" structure, because it can spread and take over a tank. |

How are you securing the rock? Just gravity? Or with epoxy or glue? If just gravity, then you're limited. But if you use epoxy, glue or acrylic rids, you can get really creative.
Are you going to have a sand bed? What's your flow situation? Me personally, I like a sand bed that's open, which means a pillar or overhang formation. Your arch is nice, but the other side looks like a pile of rocks, which may cause dead spots for detritus since flow can't reach it.
