20 gallon high sump help
Alright, with my future 20 gallon long tank I have an extra 20 gallon high tank laying around that I am going to use for a sump. Heres a quick sketch up of it from paint.
The bubble traps are 1" apart with the middle one being 1" off the ground. The baffles will be 12" high. Also a correction the first chamber is actually 4.9 gallons. And the last being 4.9 also. For the skimmer I think I'm going to save up as the tank is running for a Tunze 9002 or a similar nano skimmer that can fit in there if i get a better deal on it. For the refugium what type of sand should i use and how deep of a sand bad? The return pump is going to be a Mag5. Any suggestions welcome and appreciated. Thanks |

Plans look good.. Bubble magus has great skimmers that are very affordable. Make sure you take into consideration how deep you want the skimmer to sit.. some skimmers need a ceartain water level maintained. Mine prefers 9".. Point being, take that into consideration when setting baffle heights. Otherwise you can set the skimmer on something to raise it where you need it. Any sand will work in the fuge.. I have heard good things about "miracle mud" but no expierence myself.. Try both.. Good luck!

Ok. I'll have to look at those skimmers. Thanks for the help.

Keep in mind with that setup you will need an external skimmer unless you put it in the fuge area. I made that mistake with my 20g long. Running a PM ES-100 instead of the bubble magus I wanted.
