funny that the manufacturer would put a higher rating on the one with the lower output pump, probably to cover higher costs?

Either rating could be bloated. Who knows. Just research your purchase before buying with others who have/are using it and you'll be fine.

ill try the methods of quieting it down but my water level was a little low so hopefully more water will be the ticket.

I posted a few pages back that 8-10 inches would be best for the SC-150.

I'll contact the seller to see if he will sell me the 65 w the 2000. I'll let you know what he says about it fitting. That would be cool if it fit and would over drive it.

I'll probably end up drinking the kool-aid.

Sounds interesting and I am considering one also. Just a couple of questions. Their is no adjustment you have to raise or lower it in your sump? What is the ring with the #'s on it? Thanks.

The ring with the numbers allow you to adjust the outflow, in order to raise or lower your bubbles in the reaction chamber, raising or lowering the skimmer does affect how the pump draws air and water as little pressure changes can mean a big change in performance.

I pulled the trigger, so I will be adding my feedback here as well once I get it.

I am waiting to hear back from the seller about if the pump for the 150 will fit and work to overdrive the 65.

For those of you already operating this skimmer, what are your thoughts on this? Do you think it would work and that the skimmer could handle being over driver? Do you think that the skimmer even needs to be over driven? I am at the high side of the recommendation, I have a 45g dt and 12g sump. Very low bio load right now as I am just getting started on stocking but am planning on having a medium/high level eventually.

Using a larger pump doesn't mean you're "overdriving" the skimmer. There are other factors that make up the end result. Bubble contact time for one. This would be a direct result of the overall size of the skimmer and water level it's used in.

Use the pump it comes with. Not trying to sound like a jerk, but if you're unhappy with the performance, buy a larger skimmer.

Jerk. j/k

Some of us just like to play around and for how cheap these are comparatively they are perfect for doing just that.

+1 jerk.

Nah, not a jerk. I know that a bigger pump doesn't mean overdriven. That is why I asked if people who have them thought it could work. I probably would have gone the 150 route if I had room but my sump is real tight. Just trying to get the most out of the space.

He took about 24hrs to accept my offer and respond to an email question, which was this morning. I had a follow up question that I haven't heard back on yet. So that seems normal. Not ten minutes as reported earlier, but I think that may have just been good timing.

I think that putting a bigger pump on a smaller body would cause the skimmer to be too turbulent and reduce the contact time need to produce a good quality skimmate. But i am not sure, maybe you should ask mojo.

Well, I heard back from the seller and he thinks that putting the larger pump on would increase the performance, but would require more frequent cleanings of the cup.

What are thoughts? Should I go for it? Waiting to hear back what the cost difference would be for the upgrade to a different pump.

I got the SC150 today and it has the base style with the pump underneath and not inside the skimmer. Which works out great because you can retrofit any pump down there you want. I have it in the sump now breaking in.

The quality is definitely cheap as it is a cheap skimmer but it's not like I will be playing football with it. I didn't get any extra parts with mine and the drain pipe pulled out of the skimmers body and luckily nothing was cracked or broken. I just had to shove it back in.

Do it and let us know how it works out. With the bubble plate I would not be too worried back too much turbulence.
