I've only had this ventralis pair for about 2 months. I kept another pair for over a 1 1/2 years before but that tank was running around 70-74 throughout the years. We shall see what happen in 12 months.

Haha, thanks for the compliments guys. The tank is a far cry from what it was. As for poker/sushi night, I'll have to set something up soon. There will be a cover charge of corals or fish the next time around

Current setup - Custom Keith Grant glass cube 36x36

Sump is a custom acrylic sump that fits under the tank perfectly (John AKA justbecause, I didn’t forget about your frag, got really stressed and lost most bubbles with the transfer but slowly coming around and when it is ready, I’ll have your frag). Contents of sump - Bubble King Mini 160, Pro-Cal Calcium Reactor controlled with APEX pH controller with pH set point of 6.9. CalRX media of coarse ARM primary tube and ARM high magnesium aragonite formula in secondary tube. Also housing a mated pair of ocellaris clowns and anemones while second tank cycles. Reef octopus DC 5500 controllable return pump.

Flow - 2 Vortech MP40s, Return Ts off to two vertex mocean oscillating wave makers.

Lighting - 2 Vortech XR15w Pro with 4x20” VHO super actinic supplemental lights. Decided to give LEDs a try. Still keeping my MH just in case.

Dosing - No dosing, just weekly water changes of 15 gallons using Seachem Reef Salt.

August 29, 2012, birth of tank. August 01 2014, tank move and temp storage of corals/fish for 6 weeks. Inhabitants in holding tank because main tank moved to new location and dry branch rock added and tank allowed to cycle. Mid September, corals/fish moved back to tank. Today, tank stabilizing and corals recovering but lost most large colonies.

Memories -

I'll tag John AKA justbecause

Tagged by WES. Great. Not an easy act to follow. Beautiful tank as always Wes. Unfortunately I will be out of town most of the week and won't be able to have anything (pictures) until beginning of next week. So I will have to tag Mario (marflo530) for now and will gladly accept a tag back. FYI. As most of you know I have been "MIA" do to laziness. With that said. Not too happy with my tank. Tons of dying corals Die off SPS 20%, Chalice 40%, Z and P 30%, LPS 70% and Softies 50%. Yea sucks but still in the hobby Hope this tag will encourage me to get off my butt..lol.. till next week if I get tagged back. Have a nice week guys.

My lightening isn't the one with the pattern, but it is one of the offsprings. I purchased it when they were first available and wasn't about to spend 10,000 for ones with the pattern. Funny how supply and demand work, you can get the pattern ones for the same price as I paid for the non pattern one I wonder what the masked angles will go for in 5 years?

Lou,
Does the interupptus nipping on any corals? Do you have to keep your temp lower for her?

I am sure the interupptus nips here and there along with the bandit and regal. They are really a hit and miss. My temp is low due to many of the fish I keep who resides in cooler temp area.

And yes I need to get my tanks going. Both my tanks takes 4-6 guys to move it and I've been having a hard time getting my friends to wanna help. Lol. But on Halloween, they're all coming cuss there's gonna be food and beer.... Perfect time to make them help lol.

Thanks Wes. This is a pretty bad time for me as well, but I know if these threads start bogging down they can come to an dead stop quickly. And I love looking at everyone's tanks here in the Sac area. We have many good ones and a lot of knowledge behind them. So, I would like to dedicate my portion of this thread to Tim (tfp), because more than any other reefer and any other resource, I feel it was he that has lead me most to the place that I am at with this current tank. Obviously nowhere near perfect, but better than the last tank I had and closer to what I really enjoy keeping.

This is the only current pic I am taking for this thread, but the others are only a couple months old. FTS is from tonight:

This shallow 40 gallon tank from Advanced Acrylics is now a little over a year and a half old. Finally, some of the frags that I have acquired I have started to grow into small colonies. All corals in my tank come from vendors or other hobbyist and all started has frags. Because this tank is so small I quickly ran out as a rock space for the Acropora that I wanted to keep, so about a year ago I turned my focus more towards interesting LPS corals. This has been a little bit of a new experience for me, as I have really not kept many LPS in the past. But, it has also been a learning experience and kept me quite interested during the long lull of slow growth associated with Acropora frags.

Tank info: Advanced Acrylics 40 gallon shallow tank(14” deep). I purchased the tank and stand from a Reefer here in Northern California. The dimensions are 32 X 20 X 14
Sump: 20g. Bubble Magus- 2 section sump w/ 3 baffles
Skimmer: Seaside Aquatics CS5.5
Flow: 2mp40w on the sides and 2 small tunze low on the back behind the rockwork to keep detritus from collecting under the structures.
Lighting: Geissman Infinity 250w w/4 T5 and 2 reefbright LEDs on the front and back.
Dosing: 2 BRS Dosers for Ca and Alk and manual additions of Mag.
Controller: Apex Lite Controller.
Top-off: Tunze and a 5g. reservoir that automatically fills from my RO
Maintenance info: I am on a 2-3 gallon water change every other day schedule right now that has been working well for me. I do small cleaning jobs along with a water change on occasion. Rarely do I do a big cleaning, as I am going for stability with this practice.
Stock list: Heavy stocking for a 40g, most from my last larger tank, that works well with my regular small WCs.
Fish: Melanarus Wrasse, pretty big Magnificent Foxface, Copperband Butterfly, 2 cardinals and a blue/green chromis.
Corals: SPS- primarily deepwaters, but others as well. LPS-primarily Chalices and Favias, but a few odds and ends here as well.
