Is this dead?

I got a free coral from my lfs a few weeks back and honestly I thought he gave me a bleached skeleton but if it's free I'll take it lol.

It's been in my tank for about 3 weeks now and it's not covered in algae like dead corals get so I'm.thinking it's still alive. Anyone know what I'm dealing with?

It's bleached. This means that it may not be dead but it's lost all it's zooxanthellae so it will likely die. Zooxanthellae is a photosynthetic coral's primary food source and is what gives it it's color. Without it, it will starve. It's possible to have it recover but highly unlikely.

Well a little update... It appears to be growing. It's starting to encrust the base more than it was before

And it's also turning slightly pink

Leads me to believe it's dead. But hopefully not!
