I wish the Aquaclears came like this. They look more appealing this way.

Sure thing man. I might even start a build thread lil. Actually I am planing to upgrade the lightning of my 10g standard coral QT tank and make it look more presentable(rockscape sand and what not) and put 3-5 sexy shrimp in there and start collecting zoas

Nice craftsmanship on the overflow. I upgraded from my 5.5g AIO to a 10g reef that I built last weekend. The overflow is nowhere near as nice as yours. I'm following along to see where you go with it.

I might get a pair for this build. Never had them before because I would probably never see them in my 60 cube lol

Smile Update!

The day has come

I don’t know where to start lol

I guess I’ll start from the sand I chose for this setup.
I decided to use 15lbs of Tropic Eden’s Mini Reef Flakes. This really is the best sand, in my opinion, that I have ever used. It didn’t take me more than 10 minutes to rinse and the grain size is just amazing. I like how there is some pink in the sand. Gives it a sexy look lol

Everything worked out great. The aquascape couldn’t have been any better. This is what I imagined for days.
I didn’t place the heater in the overflow because I don’t have a ATO yet. Don’t want the heater to run dry.
The InTank media basket is awesome. I have filter floss and Chemi-pure elite running for now. I will run purigen after my cycle has finished.

I’m using Dr. Tim’s One-and-Only nitrifying bacteria to cycle the tank. I dosed ammonia chloride to jump start the cycle. Dosed ammonia to 2ppm today and will test everyday till nitrites are at 0. Once that happens, I’m going to dose ammonia to 2ppm again and keep testing every day. I will keep doing this until I see ammonia and nitrite disappear within 24 hours.
That’s when I will put a piece of live rock and some live sand from my established reef tank into this tank.

Now for some pictures

A Samsung Galaxy S2 and the ASUS PRIME lighting up the tank lmao

I have a few thing in mind, not sure if I want 3 or 4 fish.I'm getting a black ocellaris clown, a yellow clown goby, and either swissgaurd basslet or a white banded possum wrasse.
I'm thinking of a goby and shrimp pair.

anything else I should think about?

Both the swissgaurd basslet or white banded possum wrasse would be cool. Tough decision there. lol

The goby/shrimp combo is rally cool to watch, but beware, if your rocks are not stable on the bottom glass, the shrimp will let you know! I have a yellow watchman goby/tiger shrimp pair and my shrimp is constantly moving sand around like a little bulldozer! I can always tell how much excavating he is doing by the snow storm he has going on.

Sweet mod on the Aquaclear 70. How much space did you need to place the tank from the wall to get it to fit? I have the exact setup (tank and stand) and i wanted to add a bigger HOB for a refugium.

I had a smaller one hooked up but decided to remove it.

Thats what I'm a little worried about. I dont want my rocks to tumble over. I'll give it some thought. I'm not in any rush.
I'm going to stick with one clown for a bit until I decide what I'm going to get next.

I believe 6" away from the wall. It's a pretty big filter.

Thanks bro
The teeth are 1/2" apart and I used a 1/8" router bit. They are also 1.5" long.

Thanks bud that's all I needed to know. I have almost everything to do this just need time off from work.
Strangely enough I am going the same exact route as you, hope you don't mind(slightly different overflow thou).
I don't remember if you posted this bu what are you doing for lights on it?

I dont mind at all.

I decided to go with 4 Ecoxotic Panorama Pros. I like having things module and simple. I'm also going to make the fixture to hold the LED strips.
I like having different color combos and I'm sure 4 will be enough to grow SPS corals. If not, I'll toss in some 3w Cree LEDs

Cycle is almost over. Dr. Tims One-and-Only really does work
I'm going to keep cycling the tank until it takes less than 24 hours to cycle.
Then I'll put in my first fish.
I can't wait.

I have my tank on a night stand right next to the desk. When I moved I noticed the screws that hold the round bars to the frame were rusted a bit but that's it.

@ReeVo you can always put some clear nail polish on the screws before they start rusting to protect them from moisture.
