Question about GHA
I am having a problem with Green Hair Algae. I have corals in the tank and don't think its a good idea to kill the lights for multiple days. So I was wondering if I only run my Blue lights will the GHA starting dieing off and still give the corals enough light.

what corals do you have?
I would find out what is feeding the GHA besides the lights... I know it LOVES high phos and trates levels....

I wouldn't worry about the corals being without lights for a few days. If they start to complain, just tell them a big storm rolled in and the clouds blocked the sun for a few days. They should buy it as something that happens naturally in the wild. Coral aren't very intelligent and they're easy to fool like that.
Just running the blues isn't going to help much. Although FWIW I don't think lights out is nearly as effective against GHA as it is against other algae. They seem to think the same thing about the clouds without being told.

A wedge sea hare will eat it all.

Nice one David. I think I may try to find the source. I believe typically it is overfeeding, this is probably one of the main issues for us that can be prevented. just my 2 cents.

Testt your trates and phates. If it reads on the test scales then you can export through normal means. If it is bound up in the rocks and substrate then another approach could be warranted.

Took what to the LFS and everything seems to be in check. I'm not sure what's going on I only feed once a week and I'm using 0TDS water. I'm not sure what happening it doesn't seem to growing more just not dieing off.

I might spend a few minutes a week pulling out as much of the alga as was easy to reach, if any. That'll help export nutrients. The algae won't fade until nutrients are removed from the system. I might try some GFO, too. I agree that a few days without lights won't harm the corals, but I am skeptical about killing hair algae that way.
