This tank was 100% Tubastrea faulkneri, with a couple small colonies of Tubastrea miracantha. I fed each polyp every three days in this system; if the coral had not latched onto a piece of LR I would remove the colony from the aquarium and place into a small tupperware to feed (I know you've done this and seen it)... after a while all the colonies were attached to the LR so I could no longer do this. Once this happened I would do 2 gal water change every other day (off-feeding days), and 50% on the weekends. Before they were all attached I would only do 50% on the weekends, because there was much less food added to the water column when I was pulling colonies out to feed... This tank was definitely labor intensive regarding feeding and water changes, but it was not difficult to maintain, just a pain After a couple years I'd had enough and broke the tank down - I still have some T. faulkneri from that tank. It was in this tank that I had my first success sexually propagating Tubastrea Quote:

Thanks for your personal statistics there Stunreefer. According to you I am in the .1%, that feels nice. I know how much water RO systems waste. I was just trying to get a ballpark idea of how ecologically unfriendly keeping a tank that size requiring that amount or water changing would be. The tank looks great but dumping that amount of water down the toilet seems a bit wasteful to me. That's just my opinion.....

Very very beautiful and unique tank! Does your sun coral multiply/spread or you had to buy all fragments ?

Whith this amount of sun corals, there are always some open. Also with daily feeding they do open more. I would like to tank everyone for nice comments. |

Absolutely stunning, I love the design and colors, even the blue starfish is perfect! I have only one Dendro right now and I really enjoy feeding it... you may have influenced me to get a Sun Coral now. Thank you for sharing and I hope your tank becomes a Tank of the Month.
Edited to add: Do you like the VorTechs? I am contemplating replacing my 2 Koralia Nanos and getting an MP10 on my 20gallon long aquarium. Are they quiet to run and easy to adjust the flow? Thanks. Last edited by sue711; 05/19/2009 at 07:43 AM. |

I do like the vortech pumps. I like the wide flow they create, which is much better than tunze or koralia streams can offer. They are not as quiet as koralia, but the sound they make does not irritate me. You can hear them when they change flow patterns. They do have a lot of flow options as well. Many thanks |

One of the most special tanks I've seen on RC for ages! Very well done!
Hope this tank will be TOTM soon, that should be well deserved! Do you mind me asking where from Europe you are?

This tank is stunning and truly an inspiration
I love the look of suncorals, but can't keep them alive yet I also LOVE sponges and Tube nems, so your tank is really special to me. Truly one of the most unique tanks I have ever come across

So will you ever throw some black sun corals in with them? Stunning tank, they are my favorite corals.

hello,
Your tank is so nice...it has inspired me and I just put two sun corals in my 210 and plan on added like fifty more. Great work! With your massive experience with these corals would you say if they were under 250MH's they would still do ok. I know they dont need light but i have several gorgonians that are doing really well that are NP. the blue fish with the yellow/orange really looks sick nice job! TOTM for sure. thanks for sharing.
