Just got my 8x80 the other day. So far I love the light, everything is working great, but I do have one question- I've tried to program T5 channel 2 to come on before T5 channel 1 and it seems to confuse the software because channel 1 comes on and stays on. has anyone else tried this?

Yes. Mine works that way.

Make sure your points don't overlap at the same time and then be sure to load to lamp once you have the settings (if you are using the software).

Yes, I'm using the software (which is pretty cool compared to other interfaces). However, I'm not sure what you mean by overlap- If T5 2 comes on an hour before T5 1 they will have to intersect correct? I could lower the intensity (which wouldn't matter on the 80w model) but the times would still overlap.

I meant the start times. So as long as you have that set, you should be good. You are loading to lamp, right? That has failed on me a few times, and it doesn't load and didn't really tell me either.

I have my 60" but still finalizing DIY work.

I love the idea of being able to lift the light for photography/maintenance.

Would a simple pulley system be the best choice? I do like Andrew's motorized setup.

Did they find a fix? I'm having the same connection problem. Tried on Win8 & Win XP both cannot recognize the fixture. Only got it to connect twice maybe after 30-40 tries and error saving to fixture message.

Other than that awesome fixture even though arrived with scratched plexi cover and no clip.

Thanks, I was afraid 4 bulb would not be wide enough to cover 40x24x20 reef

That will be a lot of light. You could easily do the four bulb.

Someone is selling a 36in 4bulb fixture and I'm wondering if this would be enough to cover my 48x24x20 rimless

I don't think you'd have much coverage on the ends unless you hung it 24" or higher.

A 36" fixture will cover a 48" tank with no issues. You're only talking about 6" on each end that aren't receiving direct light. Raise the fixture 10" above the tank and you are golden.

Look at the freaking PAR numbers for these units! Do you need 500 PAR in every corner of the tank? That will fry almost every LPS and even some SPS won't love that much light.

There are a lot of people running shorter fixtures with no issues. You will be fine!

Are you going to have SPS packed from front to back and side to side?

Well, it's your money and tank. If you feel more comfortable with a 48" fixture, go with that.

I ran a 4x24w sunpower over a 40g breeder for almost 9 months and put SPS anywhere I wanted. That includes frags on a rack on the side glass that grew and held color. The frags were just low light SPS but they still did fine.

Most people tend to keep corals and rock a few inches from the glass. So you end up lighting a smaller footprint than your tank size.

Up to you. Just wanted to share the other side of the story. I will never run a fixture the same size as my tank again. Lots of wasted light that way.

Are these units apex compatible

I don't believe the apex can dim them or anything else. They have their own control box and programing software from what I know.

I'm currently deciding if I want to spend the money on one for my small tank.

I run a 6 bulb sunpower over a 20 long. It's overkill but I love it.

Not apex ready for sure.

Great lights, though! I'm still working through bulb combos to get the right mix. Really like the LEDs so I can dial in even more color with them.

Do any T5 bulbs come with the fixture or do you have to purchase them separately.

Thanks
