Thanks, Richard!
I'll do that. 4 days and 3 water changes later, ammonia has settled down to around .25. Woohoo!

I came late to this thread and must have missed something.
Where did you order the rock from?

Check out this crazy little guy.
He's about 3/16" tall. Some sort of baby decorator crab? He even grabbed my urchin's tentacle!

life is like a box of.....marine critters....ya just never know what you are going to

That is a 'special' decorator crab....99% of them have a dark brown body...but that particular type is a bright orange body color....goes well with your fluorescent starfish! have you tried feeding some raw shrimp to your starfish.....tuck it up under a leg and see what happens! and keep up the good work keeping that beautiful tank amazing looking! sea ya Richard TBS |

I don't know about the flourescent orange stars, but my serpent stars have a very keen sense of smell. As soon as I put shrimp in the water, they are coming for it.

Re: D2mini's Part II has landed!
Richard, thanks for the crab ID!
as far as the star goes, I tried putting some defrosted Rods Food under his legs but it just floats away. He was on the rocks for a little bit yesterday but mostly he is on the glass and seems to be filtering from the surface of the water.

Well, I lost a tall red tree sponge. It just started turning white at the base and then gradually got worse through the week. So i pulled it out of the tank. I wonder if it was exposed to a little air when originally putting in the tank? Everything else still looks nice and healthy though. It's been almost a month now.

Good job...that is what you do when something starts to puke....watch it a few days.....if no improvement...ditch it...keeps the tank happy...

Just thought I'd post another update.
It's been 6 weeks since Part II has landed and the tank is doing great. I've only lost one red tree sponge. The yellow finger sponge is actually GROWING! The tips are getting longer and pointy, the base of one section is reaching for the sand, and another section is attaching/growing to a rock. I did lose one flame scallop (not unexpected) but the other one is still hanging on. All my stars, including the bright orange one are still here and active. My gorgonian and other plants still look great. I haven't seen my decorator crabs in a couple weeks, but who knows... they could still be around. I hope so, they were fun to watch. Here's a couple pics. I erased the tank seam lines on the low angle FTS to make it look better.

Actually i just recently changed the bottom vortech to one of the pulse modes rather than reef crest and the sand is starting to fill that space up a little on its own. It's probably half the size of what you see there. But i kinda like it. It's like a little beach. Under the ocean. Trippy, ain't it? I was thinking of going to a doll house store and getting a couple little beach chairs.

I can't wait, I get part 2 today for my 140 gallon build!
Richard has easily been the best person I have ever worked with. I have been communicating with him for over a year to get to this point. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking at this hobby. I go to Tampa every year for vacation and it's really cool to have life from there in my tank. Thanks Richard and sorry for stealing your thread Dennis |
