Got the frag tank plumbed to hold its level- need to make the drain even bigger to be able to send more flow through it. Already changed it from 1/2 in to 3/4 in because the return and overflow where the same diameter when I got it. But still not enough I think. Now where to put it in the system.

Going to position it in front of top of sump. First idea was acrylic dowels to make supports but a friend threw out a good idea of building a 1 1//8 in thick shelf. Easier cheaper and I found all the parts to work with at the house for free. Good deal so shelf it is.

That's a great idea for the interchangeable backdrops... pics please!

Thanks. It sure does look like a bunch of clouds right now, but there is already a bomb tank labeled reef in the sky so I went with another descriptive and somewhat fitting label the bonsai look is going to take hold when the top shelves are filled in with sps

you should leave one "bonsai" and do GSP on the top, so when it grows in it really will look like a tree.

lol cause the SPS on the tops will look like very colorful fall trees, bunch of branches, no leafs

sorry, im not a big SPS person...."hey look! I got stick figures growing!"

build looks good so far, good luch with it, 2 years from now its gonna look like little trees in a tank, which will be super cool

Oh it'll be a mixed reef so hopefully it'll look live all the way up. When thinking on the design I tried to achieve a suitable spot for a variety of corals. Sps just being 1 of them. I can't get away from all my softies. Ya it'll be sweet to see it 2 years down.

I got really excited when I saw another bansai-inspired reef thread but I was left with much to be desired. This doesn't seam like a bansia reef to me but rather just floating rock. Either way I'm tagging along to the end because I would like to see what you do with it and this concept is completely new to me. Even the true bansai reef look odd until they are over-grown with SPS so this may be one of those situations. I'd love to see what you can make of this in a year or so with the right choice of livestock.
