How far away from back wall are you placing your tank?

Hi

Just a quick Q

How far off your room wall are you placing your tank if the wiring etc can be avoided going into the back wall?

ie I can avoid wiring behind the tank and wire underneath into the basement or elsewhere

I got mine 2 to 3 away from the wall

Far enough that I can reach all the way across the tank. My wiring and "stuff" is all in an adjacent closet, but I wanted to have enough room to be able to get behind the tank if I needed to.

My tank has a center overflow so it theoretically could be placed very close to the wall, but I still gave a little more than an arm width away from the wall so it was easier to get back there if need be. That has come in handy more than a few times.

If you get it too close the moisture can ruin the drywall, I had a overflow box that was too close to the wall.

My tank is 6" from the wall. Clearance for handling wiring and hoses stuff. Better to have a little extra room back there than wish you had later on.

I have 15 inches behind my tank glass to the wall, my sump is 10"+. I like to have room to get back there if I need to I can actually climb behind my tank and stand on the stand. it's tight but possible. my stand was origianlly build to accomodate a 125g and plumbing so the 40 takes up far less of it. I wanted to make sure I had plenty of rear acess. past tanks I never had enough space and everything behind the tank was a nightmare not to mention tank cooling in the winter from having an old house.

I have had mine 2 or so inches for years and no problems with dry wall.

I went about 15-16" with this tank. The last one was so close I could barely squeeze behind it. Very inconvenient.
