I just looked at what the price of my tank was that he built earlier this year. My tank is 8x3x2, 3/4" all around with black acrylic back and bottom and it wasnt too much more than the estimate you got from truvu. James has been building tanks for many many years and does amazing work!

Edit....my price did not include shipping though!

Im glad no one was on the couch at the time of the break! And I have to agree with others my wife would never allow me back in the house! .... Good luck on the future build. Is insurance going to help replace any of the aquarium related loss?

GlassCages is replacing the tank for FREE. Just talked to a supervisor and they have agreed to do so. However, as I will be accepting that tank, I am ordering the exact same tank from TRUVU AQUARIUMS, but in Acrylic. Once I get the glasscages tank, I will be selling it immediately (for very cheap) to offset some of the cost of the Acrylic tank. Will keep updating you as things happen.

P.S. Picked out our new hardwood floors yesterday and they're amazing! Thicker and wider than before along with a better quality! Will be installed next week.

Glad everything worked out in your favor!

I would look at redesigning your stand and use Styrofoam under your new acrylic tank as well.

Yea the engineer came by and I will be working with him on designing the new stand. Also, foam will definitely be considered this time. The tank will start to be built on Monday, and we're probably not looking until early January until installing it. Updates will keep on coming. Thanks again for all the support!

Wow. So sorry to see this disaster. I think its most hobbiest's worst nightmare!!!

But it sounds like it is all working itself out! Very glad to hear that Glasscages is honoring the tank and building you a second one.
If you don't mind, shoot me a PM in regards to purchasing the GC replacement tank... I may be interested.

Good luck! And definitely lay some Foam down!

check with tru-vu about needing foam underling an acrylic tank. every manufacturer is different when it comes to acrylic. Per the manufacturer of my tank I have 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood glued and screwed to the stand.

So here is an interesting thing I found. I tore down the fish tank today and found that the bottom was 3/4 inch thick glass and the rest was 1/2 inch. Is that normal? Just seems odd to me. Thanks!

Matt

So the new tank is ordered! I decided to go with 3/4 inch acrylic instead of 1/2 inch just to be worry free. TruVu has been great throughout this process and said the tank will be delivered on the 29th. Also, Glasscages has started building another 300 gallon for me and that will be ready in January for pickup. Still selling that so if anyone is interested in a deeply discounted 300 gallon PM me and let me know.

Update! New tank is coming on Wednesday. Rebuilt the entire stand and just waiting for the new tank. Rock is being revived again in a container and the fish are ready to get out of their 30 gallon home they have been in since June. Will take pics of the new setup when in place. Also, want to get a new addition for the tank (preferably a dwarf angel), just can't really narrow down. Fish will go into 20 long QT, so any suggestions would be helpful! Fish will be with a Naso, Sailfin, Hawkfish, and clownfish. Thanks!

Well it's finally starting to take shape! After the disaster that was my other 300 gallon from Glasscages, this new 3/4 inch think Acrylic tank from TruVu is simply stunning! The tank is finally up and running as of last night. The rock has been in a holding tank along with the sand and all of the levels have checked out! My fish have been in a 30 gallon tank for 7 months, and I know they will be very happy to arrive in their new home this weekend. Better pics will come over the next day or so, but just wanted to share one from the security camera.

I would just be thankful one of my kids wasn't sitting on that couch when it failed.

Well the tank is in and complete! What a crazy 7 weeks, but so much happier with the Acrylic tank and the new stand I built. More pics will come, but can't be happier! Fish are in and I know they're loving the space. 7 months in a 30 gallon will make you crazy I'm sure! Sorry for the blue in the pic (much whiter in person), but still working on using my new DSLR.

new fish!

Hey all. Been a couple weeks since I posted. Been busy with tax season, but have had a couple orders come in from LA. Ordered 3 small yellow tangs and they are all eating and doing great in the QT tank. Also in the same QT tank is a longnose hawk. Order on tap for tomorrow to put in the other 2 QT tanks plus my biocube 29g are a Bicolor angel, sailfin blenny, raccoon butterflyfish, 4 female/1male lyretail anthias, and a black velvet butterflyfish from DD (really excited about this one). Will post pictures of the QT addition and an updated one of the display soon. The pic below is of the Black Velvet Angel that is coming to me.

It looks like the front pane cracked where it did because the bracing held the top and bottom. Was that front pane 30" tall x 8 ft long? Out of 1/2" glass? Why do tank makers even risk that?

Yes it was an 8 foot panel 31 inches high made out of 1/2 inch glass. Crazy I know. My new tank is same dimensions, but with 3/4 inch ACRYLIC. Very happy so far. Much needed updates will follow once tax season is OVER. 9 more days!

I couldn't disagree more with this first statement, but I will agree with the second one.
