Soft and LPS Coral Aquarium
SPS seems to be all the craze today, but I really enjoy the beautiful shapes and movement of soft corals. You can see many more photos and complete tank details here http://azarmi.com/reef/profile.html |

Rodster, you'll never win tank of the month because your tank isn't over 300 gallons. But you should

By the way you say you want to upgrade to a 42"x42" do you plan to make all 4 sides visible, or at least 3?

Thank you for all the awesome comments on my tank.
Yes, our new larger tank will have four clear sides. It's a little more glass cleaning but I think the tank looks much cleaner. |

Yanni, your tank is amazing. I noticed especially how that 70T looks like a good tank for soft corals. The branching types don't get very tall, so them, mushroom corals, polyps display better on a rock pile in a tall tank. Natural looking, too. What kind of current do you have going there? Those tree corals look like they're experiencing some strong waves.

here's mine. Its a 215G (72" long). I run a pretty good current so the gorgs are always swaying. Makes it hard to photograph and my camera is crappy anyway.

I actually dont have too much flow in that tank...its just the way that the sinularia is growing that makes it look like its all over the place. I use an mp20 on the 70t and an mp10 on the 70 cube. Return flow on both is powered by a mag9 split into two return nozzles. I did the 70t with just three pieces of live rock in 2004...two 35 lb tonga branch on each side and one piece of tonga shelf across the middle. It leaves the sand bed almost totally open so no detritus and stuff builds up and like you said it makes the finger leathers and stuff stand out a bit and give it a natural look..i will try and post a newer pic some time. Almost all the corals are as tall as the water surface now, the blue ridge has actually grown about a quarter inch out of the water..lol..the funny part is the tissue thats exposed is not dead it must stay moist so it doesnt dry up and die.

The display is a 215 Oceanic (Starfire glass). Lighting is four AI Sol Blue LEDs and 2 pair of staggered 54W T5's for additional coverage and color. The basement sump system consists of three 40G breeders and a 75G stock tank all plumbed together. Bare bottom but lots of LR in display and sump system. Octo Extreme 300 skimmer modified with a BB5000 pump, extended neck cup and Swabbie neck cleaner.
I don't feed the corals directly. I have something like 16 wrasse and another half dozen other fish that I feed heavily 3 to 4 times a day and that seems to work. |

joejoe1055- the blue ridge does not require much to grow it...its growing under 6x39w t5 with average flow. It started about the size of a nickel in 2004 or 5...around there. It gets white polyps once in a while but for the most part is just kinda flesh color but does grow in neat columns that give a tank a nice natural look. I run the 70t(softy) with just a skimmer and water changes every other week, no additives or dosing of any kind.

What are those three corals right in a row almost in the middle that have what look like little hairs coming out of them?
