Little Specks??

Well that about says it all. While feeding the tank yesterday I noticed the bottom inch or so of the glass, large portions of the sand, and protected areas in the tank were swarming with little white specks. They are probably smaller than the size of a pin. I'm sure an ID is going to be impossible, but a general idea of what they might be would be appreciated. Could they be little copepods? They don't seem to bother anything, but they do converge on bits of food that get anchored somewhere that they can reach it.
