Looking real good. Thanks for the walk through.

I notice your carbon is tumbling pretty hard. Is that normal? Just wondered about fine particulate going up into the tank. HLLE has been reported to be caused from it also.

Yeah,
I have also researched that and saw it was kinda speculation but something to consider.

I have never had carbon tumble like that and the other 3 canisters are not just that one? It is the first one in the series so maybe I should turn down the pressure a little?

I'll give that a try!

Try either down just a bit, or fill that one up a bit more. It is possible to put some floss in it too, to help it stay compacted.

You have a nice setup.

Ton of questions for you:

Do u have flexible pvc going to hard pvc all the way to the bottom?

Do u have two seperate drains going all the way down? Or do you have them teed off before going through the floor?

Anything you would regret or change in your plumbing?

Good morning,

The returns are flex PVC all the way.

The drains are a different story- I would have liked to use flex but it creates a weird gurgling noise- you really cannot use flex for drains over long distances, you will regret it as you can hear it in the pipe. I have flex in both cabinets but once it leaves the cabinet it is rigid pvc all the way to the end!

Make sure to put in AIR DIFFUSERS they are awesome and kill all the bubbles in your sump.

Both drains T into a larger drain inside the cabinet so only one pipe for each tank travels down to the basement.

The 300 gallon is 2 x 1.5" that T's off into a 3" pipe all the way down to the basement sump.
The 140 is 2 X 1" pipe that t's off into a 1.5" pipe inside the ceiling of the basement to the sump.

Regrets: Some of the PVC connectors for smaller pipe are really shallow (not much pipe shoves in). I am nervous about two connections in the cabinet of the 140 because less than 1/2 " is glued in to the coupling. I think I could have searched for larger deeper couplings and been happier than the ones at the local hardware store.

Hope that helps and happy to answer any follow ups-
JIM

Jim,

My dad being the plumbing manager at his company I asked him about the shallow connections I have a few as well. Where the connections aren't as deep as I would have imagined. I asked him while we were plumbing it and he said as long as it's glued. It's not going anywhere. He said the pipe will break before the fitting where glued. Just to give you some assurance. I'm sure you are fine!

Magnificent job! Hope your fish are doing better. Your kitty is silly. I love all the fish, including the stickers! The cabinet is a work of art. But all the plumbing is intense. I will have to get my DH to do it for me. He also is understanding of my love of fish. I agree with your advice on fish size. My favorite fish are mandarins. Not big at all.

Just beautiful!

Shelley

Hey guys,

Posted a video of my two sets of clowns in their host anemones.
I have a bubble tip garden in one and the H. magnifica in the other.

Make sure to watch in 1080 HD!

Thanks for watching,

JIM

Love the clowns. The video was awesome. I have no skills at doing something like it. If you ever feel ambitious and have some extra time I would love to see a photo of all your corals labeled. It would be really helpful. I have to order everything online. I am trying to find a good place and place an order as soon as my new aquarium is ready.

The one clown with the bubble tip looks like a puzzle piece. Just kewl.

Shelley

Two new arrivals:

I could tell you exactly what they are but lets see if you can figure it out. They are a pair but it's a bit trickier than that!

Female Crosshatch ate a bit last night, male isn't interested in food yet. These guys are a lot of fun to watch! Any CH owner's have any experience with how long it takes these guys to start eating?
Thanks,
Jim

They're awesome! Never had the CH but 4 others and once they started eating they chose to never stop. I had a picky clown trigger that wouldn't eat that I got onto silversides and after a month he was a pig. Good luck!

Update:

Here is a new FTS of the 300 gallon tank:

All residents happy and healthy which is great!

Coolest development at my house is that with the introduction of the crosshatch pair in my 300, the bluethroat in the 140 has reverted back to a male. He hasn't had male coloration in years and within a couple days of the crosshatches being put in he has changed back into displaying male coloration. Separate tanks ( but same water) so it must be a chemical signal in the water!

Started a discussion on sexual dimorphism in the two tanks here:

Thanks,

JIM
