Got some new goodies today from MarineDepot! Took advantage of their 10% off Labor Day sale and ordered an AquaMaxx media reactor.

This will be a mixed reef tank. I've kept mainly LPS and softies in the past, going to try my hand at keeping some SPS.

Fish wise, a pair of ocellaris clownfish, yellow clown goby, and flameback or cherub angel for sure. Not sure what else yet, maybe some anthias.

How's your tank coming along?

Made a screen top for the tank over the weekend. I got the clear netting from Marine Depot and the rest of the screen kit from Lowes. It was pretty straightforward and not too difficult. The hardest part was trying to get the netting as taut as possible. I used zip ties to stretch the net out and hold the sides I wasn't working on in place while I rolled the spline into place. This made it a lot easier then trying to use tape to hold the netting in place. I went with a white frame and I think it turned out pretty good and matches the stand and lighting fixture perfectly!

I think it's the camera angle, the gap is about 1/4 - 3/8". It fits the same as the glass covers with the clips.

Just finished up my plumbing, the link to the metric to standard union was clutch!

My Cebu light showed up on Friday, so I have everything ready to go. Need to get my own build thread going.

Looks fantastic! Nice work! Here is our video tutorial in case anyone is curious about how to make a screen top. Thanks for shopping MD!

We are always happy to hear that!

I need to get around to making one for myself! My light and Gourmet Defroster make it more challenging so I've been dragging my feet.

The sensor has 2 outlets... 1 for a heater and 1 for a chiller/fan. You can set the temperature for each and it turns on/off each accordingly. It's really easy to setup and great for $40 if you just need a simple temp controller without having to spend $$$$ for Apex.

Cycle finally done and added a pair of ocellaris clownfish. Nitrate levels are a bit high even after a 35% water change. Bought another nitrate test kit today and will test tonight to confirm the other kit is not bad.

Tested with 2 seperate nitrate test kits and they're both consistent to about 25ppm nitrate levels. I figure its normal for the ammount of ammonia I dosed during the cycle. I'll be doing large water changes this weekend to get it down.

Finally got a chance to hook up the Aquamaxx media reactor over the weekend. Also replumbed my ATO reservoir and installed a bulkhead through the cover.

So for the past few weeks since my tank finished the cycle I've been trying to figure out why the nitrate levels have been measuring 20-25ppm. It never seemed to go down even after large 40% water changes. I started suspecting the water I get from my LFS. So lastnight I decided to test the nitrates on the saltwater and RO water I get from him and just as I thought saltwater had 20-25ppm nitrates! The RO water tested clean though. Lessons learned, if you're getting water from your LFS, make sure to test it first or make your own water.
