Petco $1 Gallon Tank Sale

I haven't verified this (link below) , but thought I'd pass it along.

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1193329

I took advantage of this last year and picked up a 33g Oceanic tank. There was a lot of talk that they were inappropriately included in the sale - none the less - there were a lot of happy folks.

Consider it verified! There was an ad in this mornings newspaper, and i have a friend that is a manager at my local petco who informed me on Thursday about the sale. It is valid on tanks from 20 gallons to 55 gallons, but glass tanks only. Happy hunting!

Just verified. I think it's only rectangle all glass tanks. Probably not bowfronts or anything specialty, but I used to work at petco and they make a lot of mistakes, so it's worth a try.

The only add doesn't say All-glass, just rectangle. Remember, cubes are rectangles too.

Well, the way it goes at petco is if you really want something all you have to do is make a fuss and speak to the manager. They don't want any scenes being made. But you have to be willing to step it up and get somewhat irate.

I just bought a 20gal Allglass tank for $20. I will use it as a frag tank. The discount is for 20 to 55 gal tanks only. Still a good deal.

I don't see anything that says "All-glass Tanks"

I think folks are just confusing the manufaturer name. All the tanks on sale are glass. Not all of them are made by the company All-Glass.
Did anybody manage to get a cube?

Im almost positive the actual paper ad said "all-glass tanks." that. The internet ad might be different. Whatever the case, its not as if Petco carries a ton of different brands. Many people have been able to buy the oceanic cubes during the sale too so if thats what you are interested in, it would be worthwhile to go check it out in person.

I have been able to get the $1 a gallon deal on tanks 20-55 gallons. That's how I bought my oceanic 33 gallon cube last year.

The ad only limits the special on tanks on-hand between 20 and 55 gallons (no special orders, no kits or combo tanks). If it's a tank between 20 and 55 gallons, doesn't come in a box, or associated with a stand, light/filter combo - I would call it fair game. I don't even recall bow tanks as a restriction. If an employee says otherwise, I would ask to have them scan it anyway.

Went to the Davis Petco today and the only tanks on sale that they had were the 20 thru 40g standard 'All Glass' brand tanks. They are stacked on a couple of rubber mats. Everything else was standard price. Thought you all might want to know.

"We at Petco do not consider a square a rectangle."

I'm game for a good deal as much as the nest person, so I tried to by a 33g Oceanic Cube today at the Arden Petco. The cashier told me it wasn't on sale and she couldn't mark it down, so I respectfully asked for a manager.

To make a long story short I was ultimately directed to Petco corporate where I had a long conversation with with Leslie D. (888-824-7257 x3621) about the ad and the product. Here final statement was "We at Petco do not consider a square a rectangle."

I gave up at this point and turned to the glory of the internet, to share this interaction. Anyway, thought this was worth a laugh. I don't take myself too seriously, you shouldn't either.

Pete, that is freakin hilarious! Way to step it up and fight the good fight. At the very least it should make folks a little more careful in how they describe things when advertising - especially to geeks like us. Although I am not too terribly surprised at the outcome, I have to give you credit for a valiant effort nonetheless!
