Very neat... I really like the use of hinges to gain access when needed. Are the radion power supplies going to mount on those boards?

No, I thought about it, but not enough space. They are mounted to the top of that rack, and I’m just going to leave them there, actually not a bad spot for them.

All the Apex gear that’s laying on that shelf will go onto the board that’s on the wall behind it btw.

All cables will be behind the board, and out of site, so they’ll come through those holes to plug in.

EB8’s mounted, next up I have to transfer everything over to the new Apex, which I’m a bit freaked out about

Here’s the tank tonight. Added a couple of clownfish today, and it also appears like the birds nest are recovering and regaining color. I’ve noticed all my SPS have major PE going on, never seen that before, will try to get some shots of it, looks cool.

Mile High 220 Gallon SPS

Hella Yella tenius, never seen the polyps extend as much as this, think that’s a good thing?

With all those polyps, i can't tell there's a coral under there!! Did everything transfer over seamlessly? I have a new apex coming next week and going on vacation the next day... No matter your answer I'm probably going to wait. Just wnat to know what I have in store when I switch them.

I haven’t done the transfer yet, I’m kinda chicken tbh, keep putting it off haha from what I’ve read it’s not that hard, but just don’t want to screw it up. The EB832 seems really nice though, and it’s nice that the Cond probe is built into the Apex so there’s no need for a PM2 module, excited to have it all switched over at some point

Yeah, I'm sure it will be super easy, I know exactly what you mean though. I'll have to devote an entire day to make sure everything is tracking properly.

I've never monitored salinity before, yet another thing to keep track of...

It’s nice to track, gives you piece of mind that the skimmer hasn’t gone crazy and the ATO hasn’t run for hours dumping in a bunch of FW. It’s just nice to track and see that it’s stable

Bit of an update. Managed to transfer everything over to the new Apex, wasn’t too bad, just took a lot longer than I thought it would, amazing how much code and profiles and everything that there is you have to copy and paste, took me a solid afternoon, but I took my time to ensure it was done right the first time.

Finished off the Apex mounting boards, helps tidy it up a bit.

Before

After

Still work in progress, need to tidy up the cable lines as they go trough the wall, but need to build another mounting board for the powerhead controllers and power supplies.

Also installed some strip LEDs that I had left over from another project under the tank to make it easier to work on, used a 1/4 round trim piece to get a good angle on them.

Got a utility sink installed in the fish room, this will make making water easier.

great build, excellent work! The 220 was the dream tank I've always wanted; I had to "settle" for a 180 recently (I know, boo hoo right??)
I really like how you've got your cord management going on here. Following along!

I had a 180 for many years. Decided to try the 220, all I’ll say is be careful what you wish for, the extra 6” make it quite difficult to reach anything on the sandbed. I’m tall and have really long arms too! I had heard the stories and thought I’d be okay, it’s manageable but if I could go back and do it again, I would drop the height, maybe do 28” or 26” instead of 30”.

Great build!

Few quick questions

- How long is your internal overflow?
- Is the external box on one side only, the whole length, same as internal or are there 2 external boxes?

Please let me know, pulling my hair trying to make a decision with which way to go.

The internal box is 48”.

The external box is 24” I think, I offset to the left by 6” as I wanted it close to one end to make plumbing easier.

I used Modular Marine for overflow, they were excellent and might be able to help you, the tank is made by Custom Aquariums. Modular was able to ship the overflow to Custom Aquariums and they drilled the tank to fit the overflow.

I appreciate your prompt reply.

How many and how big are the bulkheads between internal and external boxes.

Can you estimate the amount of flow going through your overflow, did the MM rate it?

2 bulkheads, I think there 2”.

Not sure on flow, I’m running an Apex COR 20, 4 clicks down from full blast, but can run on full blast no problem, so flowrate of the overflow has to be over 2000gph

Had some time over the weekend to work on clearing up this rats nest of wires as they come through the wall, so difficult with all the power supplies these days.

Before

I used the EcoTech power supply brackets, works for any brands power supply.

After

Tidied up the power cables a bit more too.

Also got around to setting up my RODI unit, it’s lived in a plastic container that I would have to unpack every time I made water the past year, so this made my OCD self happy.

I’m now trying to figure out how to plumb a manifold into the room behind the tank. This was the original plan I drew, in that gap between the shelving unit and frag tank I was going to stand up a UV sterilizer and have space for other equipment down the road. So planning the manifold is tricky.

Any suggestions?

Is the manifold going to be fed by the return pump? Or is this separate?
