Very nice system and progression pics FarmerTy! Where did you get the cool white diodes? I've got 7 t247's that I would like to experiment with.

Thank you!

I ordered them off eBay from a seller named "justforbetter" selling 3w bridgelux led diodes. I just picked the warm white option which was told by the seller to me that it was 3.5k.

I never soldered before I did these fixtures but just make sure the + lines up with the +, - lines up with the - on the diodes, and don't accidentally burn the board and you'll be fine.

Thanks! I should point out that I'm 5'4" so items may appear larger than life.

I plan to finally find a spot for all of these colonies and frags littering my beautiful beach!

Thank you! I'll blame it on my inconsistent posting.

Well, saw a challenge and dived head first into it.

I introduce you to acropora abrotanoides, aka the acro that will turn brown and die on you, and acropora spathulata, aka why did you just throw money away?

They both have terrible survival rates but I thought it would be a fun challenge. I actually had an abrotainoides growing about 2 years back but lost it when I shuffled some acros around. Hopefully I'll get growth and color off this guy aa well.

Abro

Spath

Wow what a fantastic tank! Hope the new frags behave them selves and start flourishing!
Quick question if you dont mind i have been thinking of adding a colony of turbinaria reniformis into my tank i see you have a colony in yours how does it grow in amongst your acropora?

Thanks again for a beautiful tank.

Regards Justin

Thanks Justin! It will lose to every acro which is why I still have it. I probably won't leave those frags on top of it like that. I just put them there to acclimate for a bit.

Well, that experiment ended quickly. In hindsite, I should have maybe gone with a less harsh dipping process for these sensitive acros. I dipped in Bayer for 20 mins, 2 hrs of potassium dip, and 2 hrs of interceptor before adding to tank.

Let me introduce you to my new experiment, can I keep an abrotanoides alive...

I would bet that even after doing all those things, it was probably that dipping hell routine that did in the coral.

That was my guess as well. I do that for all other maris but didn't think to consider these two aren't like the rest. At least I know only the strong have survived!

Yea that dipping process sounds like a rough one, especially for fragments of thoes acros. That and will put out a huge base before starting to grow upwards so make sure it has plenty of room to grow and place it somewhere you don't have to move it around and where it gets great light. I love seeing abros that actually grow in aquariums. A lot of the time people have them growing but they I'd them wrong and it's really a robusta. Keep an update, your tanks really cool for sure.

Maybe I need to move mine then. There's not much room to encrust where its at right now!
